Trimming fresh flowers?

why should the stems be held under running water when i trim them

Trimming fresh flowers?
becaue the stems contain capillaries (like straws) that lead water up to the bloom. when you cut the stem, air will go into the capillaries and cause early deterioration of the bloom. if you cut it under water, no air can enter the capillaries.
Reply:Why do you refer to your penis as a stem?
