How can I make my flower bouquets last longer?

I'm an amateur florist, and I've been disappointed that some of my flowers, even ones bought fresh from the market, only last a few days, despite flower food and listerine and changing water and cutting stems at an angle. Then I spray them with a chemical wilt-retardant. What am I missing?

I have great results with miracle grow
Reply:some sugar in the water will help!
Reply:7up and water is a little trick I use, even roses, last up to 10 days, it is wonderful!
Reply:Tonic water or 1/2 an aspirin . I have been doing this for year´s and my flowers last for up to 3 week´s or more , just keep doing as you said , change the water often ,cut back the leaves. Try to move them when the sun is to hot , if you have them near a window, and they should last long
