What substance added to water will keep cut flowers fresh?

i use dishwashing liquid..I was given roses two weeks ago and today they still look fresh using this method

What substance added to water will keep cut flowers fresh?
Aspirin.
Reply:Try bleach and I think every fourth days u trims the bottom bit slant not straigth cause if its straight the stalk will stand in the vase and blocks the water.
Reply:If is for roses or any flower that grows in cold, the best is ICE a lot of it. Fill the jar with half water and half Ice, my roses keep fresh for long periods. And if they grow in warmth weather, try water with aspirin. GOOD LUCK.
Reply:sugar
Reply:Sugar and a bit of bleach. The sugar provides food for the flowers, the bleach keeps bacteria from clogging the stems.
Reply:if you want to keep cut flowers fresh , and to last longer trim their stems before putting them in the water . they will also last longer if you maintain the water levelin the vase the way to do this is by adding ice cubes to the vase every morning and night , .good luck
Reply:i always put lemonade in my flowers they last for weeks,or even soda water
Reply:my aunt used to put a bit of sugar in it
Reply:Do not need any substance. Just cut out 1 cm of the stem that is exposed to water every alternate day. Was told but never tried, adding half tablet of paracetamol (panadol) may help..
Reply:a few drops of bleach- keeps bacteria and mold from forming.
