Ever heard of putting sugar in water to keep flowers fresh?

I have also heard an aspirin. Anyone know about this?

I have never heard of putting sugar in water to keep flowers fresh, but I have heard about aspirin....it is not true, the aspirin does help keep the water clear but not help the flowers last longer, the secret to keeping your flowers fresher longer is to keep the water changed as well as the stems trimmed at an angle, being carful not to crush the stem, keep all the leaves below the water level cut off as they will rot.
Reply:Yes I have heard of both. Both seem to work.
Reply:Yes, I have heard that both work, as well as lemon lime carbonated beverages. You can also add a very tiny amount of bleach to keep bacteria in the water to a minimum.

Most importantly, cut the stems with a sharp knife at an angle and plunge them immediately into water, not overly hot or cold. I usually fill the kitchen sink with water and cut the stems under the water and then transfer very quickly into vase of water next to sink. Change the water daily and recut the stems just a tiny bit to increase the ability to absorb the water.
