Using silk flowers or fresh for bouquets?

I really want fresh flowers, but a lot are not available in the fall or are very $$$$. What do you think about silk? Do you think they make beautiful bouquets or is there no comparison?

I actually wrote a pro con list on this while deciding lol... I think that real flowers are so much prettier. What type of flower(s) do you want at your wedding? Sam's Club online you can buy bulk flowers (roses, lilies, carnations etc) cheaper than fake flowers, if you or someone you know would be able to make the bouquets. Also if you DIY Walmart has reasonably priced flowers. I was just there today they have calla lilies 10 for $30, 3 roses for $4, a dozen for $9.98. You could have real flowers cheaper than silk ones. For example...I'm helping my friend with her wedding right now (That's why we were looking at Wal-mart earlier) and this is how it plays out


Bridal bouquet 15 roses


Maid of honor bouquet 9 roses


2 Bridesmaids having 6 roses each


7 bouts


a toss bouquet with 3 roses


Comes to $42.00.


And they have a 50% floral rack over by the groceries (the outter layer of petals are a bit wilted but who notices they are on the floor)... we are getting a dozen roses over there for $7 for the flower girl to toss.
Reply:in my opinion i would go for fresh every time, you carnt beat them.. my daughter had silk and before the photographer had finish half the flowers were on the floor and we though we had gone to a professional florist..also you could have them dried and mounted in a frame (Ive seen this and it looks great) go to a florist and ask what will be available at the time of your wedding some times the most simple of flowers look amazing when made up best wishes to you
Reply:Either or are both great. You can save both but the silk will never die and that memory will last forever. I think both are really great choices.

However, if the flowers you want are very expencive there are ways to cut down the costs.





Get a good florist with a good imagination. Get the bouque sorted first. It's the most important as it will be in all the photos.





In the church have one main arrangement instead of lots of pew end arrangements.





For the reception use candles on the tables instead of flowers...you could even have floting candles in the shape of flowers if you want! Or you could have garlands of ivy with a few flowers threaded through...





Use your imagination, once you get started it will be fun %26amp; easier than you think!
Reply:don't use silk -- it's fake. florists get their flowers from hothouses so many types will be available.
Reply:I dont think there is any comparison. You will hear things like "they looked so real" and "no one could tell the difference", but I just like knowing they are real. If cost is a factor, I say less of the real thing is better than more of the fakes.

Reply:Fresh! Even if each girl only hold one sunflower or daisy and nothing else, that would be better than silk.





Silk are extremely tacky.
Reply:I do know people who have used fake flowers for their wedding bouquet. The upside to having a fake bouquet is that you don't have to worry about preserving it. It's really up to you. I don't know how happy they were with it. I think fresh would look better.

Reply:Silks can look close to real but you can usually tell they are fake in photos. You also don't get the nice smell that real flowers give. There are lots of affordable flowers available in the fall, you might just need to change the type of flowers you are looking for.
Reply:Im making all my "fake" bouquets. I didn't use silk but another type of faux flower. I got all the materials at hobby lobby when they had 50% off sales for flowers. Mine look really good and not fake at all.





Some faux flowers will look fake so take a friend with you to the craft store and pick out a flower that doesn't look cheap or too fake and pick the most natural colors.

Reply:I'm using silk. We're on a tight budget, because it's going to be necessary to get a bigger place (we both have kids) and I'll have the expense of moving across the country. Besides that, though, I like silk because I can make sure I get exactly the look I want, and I can get some of the work out of the way early. My flowers are very nice; you have to touch them to know they're not real. Other people have said to look at Michaels's or Hobby Lobby; those places do have great flowers. I actually got mine at Wal-Mart, but you have to look in the right section. They have their flower sections divided by quality. You will pay more for the realistic ones, but not quite as much as you'll pay at Hobby Lobby full price. (But I do wish I'd known about the 50% off sale! I definitely would have come out cheaper elsewhere if I'd known about that.)
Reply:if there is no flowers of your choice because they are not in season go and get some silk ones there is so many beautiful ones to choose after all who is to know only you.

i would like fresh but i'm cheap or should i say thrifty





check at your local grocery store in their floral dpt. some maybe be able to order your flowers and you can assemble them yourself. doesn't hurt to check!

Personally I would rather have less real flowers then more silk flowers. Nothing compares.

Reply:I'm using silk flowers. I had a friend who did silk flowers for her wedding and they looked very real. If you know how to arrange them you'll be fine.
Reply:Silk flowers can be just as expensive, especially if you want them to look real. Fall flowers are plentiful and so colorful.





Go with the fresh flowers, it is what you want. And there is no comparison when you come to the nature beauty and the colors. Talk to a couple of florist to find the best flowers for your style and budget.





You can cut some costs of the expense by getting maybe smaller bouquets, or carry something hand tied, or a single flower for your bridesmaid. Make a list of the people who you want to distinguish with flower corsages or boutinners.


Keep the list short, parents, grandparents, maybe godparents, clergy, etc. Not everyone needs or expects one. Use the same arrangements at your wedding site and have them moved to your reception area. You can have spectacular centerpieces for each table using candles, greenery, lanterns, mirrors, or just flower petals etc. with a limited amount of flowers. Be open to suggestion from your florist and keep the flowers your really want for your bouquet. Lots of ways to keep within your budget.





Be creative - it will be beautiful and yours alone.
Reply:More flowers may be in season then you think...and I personally think that using the fresh flowers is a much nicer look. Silk flowers look okay, but nothing compares to the fresh. Here is a list of flowers in season in the fall and flowers in season all year round. I am sure you can create something beautiful-I know I am using a lot of daisies since they are usually always in season, affordable and a beautiful flower.
