Can you be fragrance-sensitive to something natural like fresh flowers indoors? 10 Easy Points with evidence.?

My parents brought 2 bouquets of fresh flowers into my home today, and I conicidently had an asthma attack for the first time in a month. I seem to have a hypersensitive nose. But I thought only synthetic smells like perfumes caused asthma...

Can you be fragrance-sensitive to something natural like fresh flowers indoors? 10 Easy Points with evidence.?
ALL flowers have pollen, and that can play a HUGE role in asthma. See below.

A personal example: Have you ever smelled lilacs?

Last week I think I was about to develop asthma myself, when there was a big bouquet of them by my desk at work...the fragrance was over-powering!

The reason you react to flowers, indoors or out, is the pollen. That's a HUGE part of most people's spring allergies, because pollen is EVERYWHERE... trees, bushes, plants... bees carry it around, it is light enough to float on the wind, it gets on anything near it and STICKS! -I park my car under a cherry tree (which is currently blossoming -has flowers), and EVERY morning I have a new layer of pollen on my windshield, and the rest of my car. It's HARD to get off! -So you can imagine why it sticks in, and irritates your lungs.

There are some milder scented flowers that might be safe to be around, but if you want greenery I suggest you stick to non-flowering plants.

p.s. A lot of REALLY STINKY perfumes are made from flowers!

How can I save my fresh flowers to last longer?

PRESERVE MY FLOWERS

How can I save my fresh flowers to last longer?
There have been a many of theories on this, but this is the best I have found and it came directly from Martha Stewart. When you first get your flowers fill a vase with luke warm or room temp water. Then cut about 1/2 inch off each stem on the diagonal. If you would like, you can remove all the flowers leaves also. This will help the flower stay hydrated because all the water is going to the flower itself not being shared between the flower and then leaves. Place flowers in the water and arrange to your liking. Now you want to repeat this everyday, changing the water and cutting about 1/2 inch off the stem of each flower. Also if you can avoid it, don't place your fresh flowers in front of a window, a very bright lamp, or a heat source the direct light will just cause them to open up faster and then wilt. Also you can add a little extra time to their life by placing them in the refrigerator at night, taking them out in the morning. Some people sware by adding sugar to the water, I have even heard sprite and 7 up also. Don't waist your time, I have tried these methods and they don't help at all. Good Luck!
Reply:cut the stems off 1/2 inch, then place in warm water that 1 teaspoon of sugar has been disolved into. when you go to bed for the night, if room allows, place flowers in fridge [or outside if weather is cool]

Will rooted fresh flowers grow okay in crystal accents?

I have some crystal accents (clear beads soaked in water) and am wondering whether I can put any plant with roots in them? Also, will seeds germinate or will cuttings root in crystal accents?

Will rooted fresh flowers grow okay in crystal accents?
i'm not sure, i think it depends on the type of plant.. go to your local nursery and ask or look up the specific plant.

What are the steps to put fresh flowers between layers on a tierred wedding cake? On a dish with floral foam?

Where can you get the dish from ? And how does this dish rest on the cake without destroying it ?

What are the steps to put fresh flowers between layers on a tierred wedding cake? On a dish with floral foam?
First, make sure that the flowers are completely clean. Most flowers that you buy are treated with pesticides. You don't want your guests eating that with their cake ;) Second, there are many ways to place flowers on a tiered cake.

*Cut the stems short and lay them on top of the tier around the outside.

*Stick the stems, cut short, into the icing creating a pattern around the cake. You will want to use thin stemmed flowers, such as daisies or orchids, so they don't weigh down and pull on the cake.

*Cut a circle out of wax paper. Use a small piece of Oasis floral foam and arrange the flowers in the foam. Place the oasis on the top of the wax paper in between the layers of the cake.

Best Wishes!

Reply:wire and tape the flowerd either individually or in bunches and literally stick the stems into the cake...??

How can you keep fresh flowers to last longer?

As soon as you get home, fill a clean vase with warm water (not too hot, just comfortably warm) , add the packet of floral preservative that came with the flowers, then cut the stems at an angle with a sharp knife or stem clippers then insert in vase. If you got the flowers from the florist, check to see if you need to add water. Florists use water that has been treated with flower preservative when making the floral arrangement. In a couple of days, check the water level and water clarity. Ideally on the third day, you want to clean your vase, mix the floral preservative with warm water then pour into clean vase. Cut about 1/2 to an inch off of the stems at an angle then arrange flowers in vase. Make sure that you also cut off foliage so that those do not get into the water. Foliage in water tends to decay and create ethylene gas that speeds flowers to wilt. Make sure that your floral arrangement is in a cool, draft -free area, away from heating vents and out of direct sunlight.

How can you keep fresh flowers to last longer?
Make sure they have plenty of sunlight(but not TOO much). I've also heard that you can put half of an aspirin into the water %26amp; its helps.

Or they also sell flower food that will help as well.
Reply:Put sugar in the water they are in
Reply:they make a solution you can buy at wal-mart or but i like to cut about one inch off the bottom, smash the ends and put in vase with sprite-cola last a week sometimes more. enjoy them!!!
Reply:ok, put the flowers in a shadow space because the sunlight can cause a damage. cold water is fantastic, whit some ice, its true! and...one aspirin... the results .. fabulous!!!
Reply:all u do is water them and give them flower food
Reply:Don't touch.

Asprin in the water.

Sugar in the water.
Reply:crumble up an aspirin and put it in the water.
Reply:asperin.

.
Reply:If you don't like to use chemicals to prolong the life of your cut flowers, there are "natural" alternatives. Some methods work better than others. Here's one for you: does a penny and an aspirin tablet placed in the vase water really do any good? Some say the combination does keep flowers fresh longer. The theory is that the copper acts a fungicide and the aspirin makes the water more acidic. Here are more food + acid combinations:

* Add one part lemon-lime soda (not diet) to 3 parts water. Then to each quart of this solution, add 1/4 teaspoon bleach. Thereafter, add 1/4 teaspoon bleach after each 4 days of use.

* To 1 quart water add 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon bleach.

* Add 2 ounces Listerine mouthwash per gallon of water. Listerine contains sucrose (food) and a bactericide. Listerine is acidic and is said help water move up the cut stem.
Reply:Put ice in the water.

Really! It worked for me
Reply:do not put them in sunlight. Once in your house a shaded area out of the bright sun and heat will extend the flowers life.

Also crush an aspirin in the water before you add the flowers , small vase 1/2 an aspirin
Reply:Believe it or not, I've heard to use 7-Up instead of water. I've never tried it but I do replace the water every day and trim the ends of the flowers every few days. Also, make sure you don't have any leaves below the water level.
Reply:pour sprite or 7-up in the water about half and half. I know it seems weird but it works. has something to do with the carbonation.
Reply:make sure they have water and most flower shops will have flower food or asprin and make sure there not in a cold area like below freezing anywhere from 40 degrees to 68 degrees is good. i work at a flower shop and we do the flower food and they come in little packets which is nice. also i have had customers say they use 7up, squirt and asprin. but your best bet would be to make sure it has water and keep it in a cool place.
Reply:Put an asprin in the water
Reply:aspirin or u can go to the flower store and ask them for the little medicine that they have. it is smal like an aspirin where you put it in the vase.
Reply:Watch The Movie Sarah Plain and Tall, that'll tell you. Just hang em upside-down.
Reply:water them ;)
Reply:Crush up asprin and put it in the water
Reply:Cut the stems of the flowers on an angle under water. Then place room temp. water in a vase along with an aspirin. the flowers should last about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks!
Reply:Once a flower has been cut, it begins to die and wither. The best way to keep flowers lasting a little longer is to be sure and re-cut there stems and put into fresh clean water, being sure to cut the stems at an angle.
Reply:Hi! The best is what u get from the flower shop--u kno the pre-pkg. stuff, but u can try adding 7 UP esp. roses...they did a special on a can. show years years ago and believe it or not 7 up (bout 1 T per 1/2 cup water workd best!! If not, use an aspirin....hope that help ya! cheers!
Reply:Either put a teaspoon of sugar in water or a teaspoon of bleach.Either will work.
Reply:Cut your stems at a 45 degree angle, and add sugar to tepid water, not cold water.
Reply:Depends on the type of flowers- instead of water- use 7up or sprite. If not asprin with ice cold water and change the water daily.
Reply:Put fresh water in and I have heard about putting lemonade in the water to keeep them fresh.
Reply:soak them in vodka!
Reply:spray hairspray on them lightly
Reply:put a little sprite in the water.

Using silk flowers or fresh for bouquets?

I really want fresh flowers, but a lot are not available in the fall or are very $$$$. What do you think about silk? Do you think they make beautiful bouquets or is there no comparison?

Using silk flowers or fresh for bouquets?
I actually wrote a pro con list on this while deciding lol... I think that real flowers are so much prettier. What type of flower(s) do you want at your wedding? Sam's Club online you can buy bulk flowers (roses, lilies, carnations etc) cheaper than fake flowers, if you or someone you know would be able to make the bouquets. Also if you DIY Walmart has reasonably priced flowers. I was just there today they have calla lilies 10 for $30, 3 roses for $4, a dozen for $9.98. You could have real flowers cheaper than silk ones. For example...I'm helping my friend with her wedding right now (That's why we were looking at Wal-mart earlier) and this is how it plays out

Bridal bouquet 15 roses

Maid of honor bouquet 9 roses

2 Bridesmaids having 6 roses each

7 bouts

a toss bouquet with 3 roses

Comes to $42.00.

And they have a 50% floral rack over by the groceries (the outter layer of petals are a bit wilted but who notices they are on the floor)... we are getting a dozen roses over there for $7 for the flower girl to toss.
Reply:in my opinion i would go for fresh every time, you carnt beat them.. my daughter had silk and before the photographer had finish half the flowers were on the floor and we though we had gone to a professional florist..also you could have them dried and mounted in a frame (Ive seen this and it looks great) go to a florist and ask what will be available at the time of your wedding some times the most simple of flowers look amazing when made up best wishes to you
Reply:Either or are both great. You can save both but the silk will never die and that memory will last forever. I think both are really great choices.
Reply:I think there is no comparison between fresh %26amp; silk flowers...go fresh!

However, if the flowers you want are very expencive there are ways to cut down the costs.

Get a good florist with a good imagination. Get the bouque sorted first. It's the most important as it will be in all the photos.

In the church have one main arrangement instead of lots of pew end arrangements.

For the reception use candles on the tables instead of flowers...you could even have floting candles in the shape of flowers if you want! Or you could have garlands of ivy with a few flowers threaded through...

Use your imagination, once you get started it will be fun %26amp; easier than you think!
Reply:don't use silk -- it's fake. florists get their flowers from hothouses so many types will be available.
Reply:I dont think there is any comparison. You will hear things like "they looked so real" and "no one could tell the difference", but I just like knowing they are real. If cost is a factor, I say less of the real thing is better than more of the fakes.
Reply:fresh is fresh
Reply:Fresh! Even if each girl only hold one sunflower or daisy and nothing else, that would be better than silk.

Silk are extremely tacky.
Reply:I do know people who have used fake flowers for their wedding bouquet. The upside to having a fake bouquet is that you don't have to worry about preserving it. It's really up to you. I don't know how happy they were with it. I think fresh would look better.
Reply:yuck!!!!!!!VERY TACKY
Reply:Silks can look close to real but you can usually tell they are fake in photos. You also don't get the nice smell that real flowers give. There are lots of affordable flowers available in the fall, you might just need to change the type of flowers you are looking for.
Reply:Im making all my "fake" bouquets. I didn't use silk but another type of faux flower. I got all the materials at hobby lobby when they had 50% off sales for flowers. Mine look really good and not fake at all.

Some faux flowers will look fake so take a friend with you to the craft store and pick out a flower that doesn't look cheap or too fake and pick the most natural colors.

good luck and congrats
Reply:I'm using silk. We're on a tight budget, because it's going to be necessary to get a bigger place (we both have kids) and I'll have the expense of moving across the country. Besides that, though, I like silk because I can make sure I get exactly the look I want, and I can get some of the work out of the way early. My flowers are very nice; you have to touch them to know they're not real. Other people have said to look at Michaels's or Hobby Lobby; those places do have great flowers. I actually got mine at Wal-Mart, but you have to look in the right section. They have their flower sections divided by quality. You will pay more for the realistic ones, but not quite as much as you'll pay at Hobby Lobby full price. (But I do wish I'd known about the 50% off sale! I definitely would have come out cheaper elsewhere if I'd known about that.)
Reply:if there is no flowers of your choice because they are not in season go and get some silk ones there is so many beautiful ones to choose after all who is to know only you.
Reply:i'm doing silk.

i'll be purchasing them when ac moore and michaels has their 50% off sales.

i would like fresh but i'm cheap or should i say thrifty

check at your local grocery store in their floral dpt. some maybe be able to order your flowers and you can assemble them yourself. doesn't hurt to check!
Reply:Hello;i and my husband share this thing.so i came accross your question about silk or real flowers.silk flowers and tissue flowers looks just as beautiful.for i made mine for our wedding and everybody thought they were real.hope this helps.janet
Reply:I dont think silk are tacky, but that they are noticiable.

Personally I would rather have less real flowers then more silk flowers. Nothing compares.
Reply:You can find some really nice silk flowers for very cheap. I think it would be fine to use silk flowers if it means you will save a huge amount of money.
Reply:I'm using silk flowers. I had a friend who did silk flowers for her wedding and they looked very real. If you know how to arrange them you'll be fine.
Reply:Silk flowers can be just as expensive, especially if you want them to look real. Fall flowers are plentiful and so colorful.

Go with the fresh flowers, it is what you want. And there is no comparison when you come to the nature beauty and the colors. Talk to a couple of florist to find the best flowers for your style and budget.

You can cut some costs of the expense by getting maybe smaller bouquets, or carry something hand tied, or a single flower for your bridesmaid. Make a list of the people who you want to distinguish with flower corsages or boutinners.

Keep the list short, parents, grandparents, maybe godparents, clergy, etc. Not everyone needs or expects one. Use the same arrangements at your wedding site and have them moved to your reception area. You can have spectacular centerpieces for each table using candles, greenery, lanterns, mirrors, or just flower petals etc. with a limited amount of flowers. Be open to suggestion from your florist and keep the flowers your really want for your bouquet. Lots of ways to keep within your budget.

Be creative - it will be beautiful and yours alone.
Reply:More flowers may be in season then you think...and I personally think that using the fresh flowers is a much nicer look. Silk flowers look okay, but nothing compares to the fresh. Here is a list of flowers in season in the fall and flowers in season all year round. I am sure you can create something beautiful-I know I am using a lot of daisies since they are usually always in season, affordable and a beautiful flower.

What is best way to keep fresh flowers pretty?
Grind up 2 aspirin and add it to the water, it preserves them for quite awhile, I used to work in a flower shop, and that's what they did once a week to all their fresh flowers... It helps!
Reply:According to today's breaking new on Yahoo, apparently a touch of Vodka keeps flowers fresh - or citrus juice.

The old fashioned method of course is aspirin, but it never worked as well for me as changing the water every day.
Reply:this's what i do ,i places them in a cold water ,with some sugar in(some prefer to add lemon juice too), after dipping the steams in olive oil,n keep on re-cutting them evry while..
Reply:Ok, when it comes to cut flowers there's a lot of good advice and a lot of wives' tales floating around. I am a Plant Pathologist and have been the quality control manager of a flower importing company for over 13 years. This is what you need to do and why:

1- Buy flowers at a reputable source, don't buy them in a street corner or they will likely be old, stressed flowers.

2- Process them as soon as you bring them home, don't leave them in the car or sitting on the counter for hours.

3- Remove any brown or bruised petals; if there are any brown mushy spots it is most likely Botrytis, which is a fungus that will rot the flower. However if it is removed when the spot is still small your flowers will be ok.

4- Use a very clean vase that has been washed thoroughly; if it is not clean enough for you to drink from it then neither should your flowers. The number one reason why roses get "bent necks" is actually from getting the stems plugged by bacteria (more than air)

5- You can use cold water or luck warm water but NEVER hot water, this will only stress the flowers and reduce their vase life.

6- Use commercial flower food in the water if available and make sure you follow the instructions as to the amount of water to be used. Most of the little bags that come with bouquets are either for ONE PINT or if they are larger, for one Quart of water. You have to use all the flower food that comes in the packet. If you use less food or too much water, you will not have enough bactericide in the water and bacteria will develop reducing the vase life.

7- Remove any leaves that will be covered by water as these rot and contaminate the water. Do not remove more than it is needed, roses especially need their leaves to be able to draw water from the stem ends. The leaves act as a water pump; as water is evaporated from the leaves, water is pulled up through the stem.

8- Cut 1-2 inches from the stem ends (no less than one inch) this will remove the blockage of bacteria, air and plant cells plugging the stems. It has been advised for many years to cut them under water. This is true, the stems form a vacuum inside, and when cut they suck air. The air will plug them for a while and can prevent water absorption, but it has been shown that the air bubble dissolves in a few hours if stems are placed in water right away. I would still recommend cutting them under water (just fill the sink) as long as the water is perfectly clean. The most important thing is to cut them with a very sharp knife or sharp sheers that will not crush or damage the stems and put them in the vase with water or solution right away.

9- Do not pierce the stem higher up as it was suggested, the vessels inside the stem are only one or two inches long, the air bubble remains on the bottom of the stem. Florists use this green wire to forcibly keep the heads from bending, but as long as you follow the previous advice this should not happen.

10- Put your flowers in a fresh area away from direct sunlight or heat from appliances (like from the TV) and away from air drafts (like in front of the AC vent).

11- If you re-cut the stems use fresh flower food solution to refill the vase.

If you do not have flower food you can make your own. It does not work as well as commercial ones, but it works better than plain water. Flower food is made of the following:

a- SUGAR: to feed the flowers (once cut from the plant they cannot produce their own food anymore.

b- BACTERICIDE: to kill bacteria in the water. If you add sugar without adding a bactericide you will have bacterial soup.

c- ACIDIFIER: water flows better up the stem at a low ph, flower food contains citric acid or other substances to make the water acidic. Bacteria do not reproduce as much in an acidic environment either.

d- SURFACTANT: something that reduces the water tension of the water so that it flows better (a kind of soap).

So to make your own, you can use one part of a lemon-flavored soda like Sprite, 7-UP, Sierra Mist etc (it has to be regular, it cannot be diet) and two parts water. This will provide the sugar and acidity your flowers need. However you need to kill the bacteria or it will be worse than using water alone. You need to add 3-5 DROPS (not a squirt) of Clorox to the water depending on the size of your vase. Mix it up before putting the flowers in it.

Make a fresh solution when you re-fill the vase.

As far as the aspirin goes, it helps a little because it acidifies the water, but you are still missing the key ingredients; sugar and a bactericide.

It looks complicated but it is not, just use clean...- everything!

Enjoy!!

What household substances help make fresh flowers last longer?

this is for a science project

What household substances help make fresh flowers last longer?
changing the water every day
Reply:hi there %26lt;smile%26gt;

Take about 1/2 teaspoon of bleach and add to the water or a disprin can also do the trink.

What I can suggest is that you change your water every 2nd day and walla the flower will last longer.

Take Care
Reply:Sugar in the water is meant to make flowers last but you have to make sure you cut a few centimeters off the stems each day and change the water..
Reply:put an aspirin in the bottom of the vase.
Reply:Warm water and sugar
Reply:actually most are old wives tales. It depends on the flower. in general change the water every third day and recut the stem at the same time. Clean water, clean vase fresh cut are all key. Bleach, asprin, are all to prevent bactiria which if you do the above you do not need. Sugar or 7 up, does not do to much at this stage of the flowers life. That is good for flower production not preservation.

As a florist for the past 15 years I recommend Clean water, clean vase fresh cut are all key. Keep flowers cooler, away from any heat source (TV. stove) (also away from direct sunlight)

Fresh floral arrangement: Gel instead of water?

I am making the floral arrangements/centerpieces for an upcoming party. I plan on using fresh flowers, but I'd like to place them in a gel rather than water. The reason is that I would like to place gold leaf in the gel so it will catch the candlelight and create a wonderful shimmer effect. After some Googling, all I can find is a gel for artificial or dried flowers. Any suggestions?

Why do men want to give fresh flower to the girls?

because men want to deflowered them

u noe wat i mean?

Why do men want to give fresh flower to the girls?
Remember that big hug she gave you when you got her fresh flowers? It doesn’t have to only happen on Valentine’s Day. Everybody knows that women love to get them, so why is it that men rarely send flowers?

When men buy flowers they often find it an intimidating experience. They may not know what type of flower to buy. Or if each color has a hidden meaning. Or how much to spend on the flowers. Also, men are notoriously lazy and hate actually taking the time to go to the flower store. According to the American Floral Endowment Consumer Tracking Study women buy 67% of all fresh flowers.

The good news is that it’s now easier than ever to send flowers. One can buy flowers online that are fresh from the growers and don’t cost much – all without the effort of going to the store. Since online florists often ship FedEx, you don’t even have to worry about the flower delivery. You can choose from fresh roses, lilies, and other fresh flowers and even see what the arrangement will look like. A good flower website allows you to choose by flower type, occasion, color, or price. Still can’t decide? Choose anything. Most women don’t care what you get them. They just want to see that you expressed your love by sending them a surprise bouquet of flowers. When you send flowers, you will not only make her feel good, but you’ll come off as the sweet romantic she’s been longing for.

Consider Glenn and Pamela. The two met while vacationing at Club Med. When Glenn returned to his native Philadelphia he didn’t want to give up on a relationship with Pamela who lived in New York. Every week he would send flowers to her office, each time with a different bouquet. Pamela’s co-workers were jealous and she was impressed. She invited Glenn to visit in NY and they ended up getting married.

It’s not hard. According to Josh Grossman, cofounder of online florist Beyond Blossoms, in five minutes you can send flowers for less than $30. Besides picking out your favorite bouquet, you can specify the delivery date and write a custom message that will be included in each flower delivery box. What else besides flowers can go straight to your girl’s heart? Send her a gift of flowers that she will truly treasure (and tell her friends about)!

Josh Grossman is cofounder of online florist Beyond Blossoms (http://www.beyondblossoms.com). The company's mission is to design and send unique European style bouquets for fresh flower delivery in the US.

Reply:Flowers are an inexpensive way of judging how a girl sees you in a relationship.

True story, a friend got stood up by a girl and wound up going out with the guys instead. So we went to the florist to find out a little truth. We bought a dozen roses and took them to the girl's house to let her parents know that she was supposedly too sick to be going out that night. Needless to say when her mother heard the news and received the flowers that girl suddenly became too ill to be going out that night with anyone.

Never underestimate the effectiveness of a bouquet.

Do you know a better way to have fresh flowers in the house in the winter without going to a florist?

My sweet hubby stops by our local grocery store at least once a week and brings home fresh flowers. They are very inexpensive and sometimes I separate them into small vases and place them in different rooms. They bring in the sunshine and color that winter takes away. A constant reminder of the beauty that spring will soon bring.

Do you know a better way to have fresh flowers in the house in the winter without going to a florist?
Forced Bulbs are a great way to have spring in your house right in the middle of winter. Just pop them down about halfway in some moist potting soil. Keep them watered and you have tulips and daffodils in the winter. Very nice and very easy.
Reply:A great way to have fresh flowers is to force some bulbs. Paperwhites are the easiest bulb to force. First, sit them in the freezer for a week or so. Then just sit them in some decorative gravel and put water up to just over the root part of the bulb. It will take a little time for them to be fully bloomed, but it's cheaper than the florist.

You can experiment with other bulbs, too.
Reply:That' s like asking if you know how to survive in space without any oxygen. Do you know? Didn't think so.
Reply:You can grow any bulb type flower in your house, in the winter.

Amaryllis, PaperWhites, Daffodils. You can also 'trick' other flowering plants by the temperature in your house and the humidity level. The flowering plant can be tricked for the humidity level, by spritzing(spraying) the plant with water in a light mist. There are several houseplant sites out there with tips that can help you.

How can you preserve fresh flowers from a funeral arrangement?

you can do several things. get silica sand to dry them..you lay the flowers in it and gently cover them with the sand. It draws out the moisture and keeps more of the color. #2 ties them together and hang them up-side down until they dry...but they tend to dry much darker. #3 get some "glycerin" from wall-mart or drugstore's. if I remember correctly, I boiled water 2 parts to 1 part glycerin and let it cool to warm, cut then stems of the flowers and put them in the mixture. you'll want to use a taller narrow vase so it doesn't take so much...let them soak for about a week...by then they should have the glycerin soaked up and preserved soft!

How can you preserve fresh flowers from a funeral arrangement?
theres a special kind of dust i think its called ever dry or something like that

im pretty sure you can get it at Michaels or stiens

wut i suggest is just take multiple flowers and do each theory that was suggested
Reply:well, whatever you do, they won't last forever, but take out a few and "press" them in a book or photo album to save.
Reply:put a small amount of sugar in the water

Aspirin for fresh cut flowers?

I was told that if I put an aspirin in a vase of fresh cut flowers, it will preserve them longer. Is this true and if so, what does the aspirin do to the flowers? How often should I change the water in the vase because I do not know how to preserve roses but I want to save these!! If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please let me know!

Aspirin for fresh cut flowers?
drop one or two non-coated aspirin in the water first. Cut the stems at a slant, and then place the flowers in the water. Don't know how it works, but it will sometimes keep them fresh looking for up to 2 weeks. If the water starts turning a green color, empty and start over.
Reply:yep and change the water every few days
Reply:Mom always put half a crushed aspirin in the flower vase and it seemed to work. How, I do not know.

Anyone knows how to preserve/dry fresh flowers?

first boyfriend gave me a dozen of fresh white roses and i wanted to preserve it.anybody knows of any method?

Anyone knows how to preserve/dry fresh flowers?
Hang them upside down, that simple! My mom worked at a floral shop for more than 5 years, trust me, we have 6 or 7 hanging over the sink as I type, lol. GoodLuck!~LuvCarly
Reply:bury the flowers in silica gel in a container with no lid. put container in microwave with half cup water next to it. for roses between 2 and 3 minutes. let the silica cool before removing the roses.
Reply:Hang them upside down in an area that is dry, but sunny. In a couple of days they will be dried and preserved.
Reply:hang them upside down.
Reply:The best way to preserve it would either be to dry it out (by hanging it upside down), or put it in a dilute saline solution. There are of course other ways, but the two mentioned above would be the easiest.

Saline solution can be purchased at Home Depot or Savons/Walgreens/etc.
Reply:Because they are white, hanging them to dry will change the color to a rusty brown color. If you want the color to stay white, use either kitty litter or flower preservative (at the craft store) in a plastic container. Cover the flowers on all sides and leave it alone for about 10 days.
Reply:i usually turn them upside down to help them hold their form when drying out.
Reply:YOU COULD TAKE THEM OUTSIDE AND REPLANT THEM------MY AUNT TOOK HER DAUGHTERS WEDDING BOUQUET AND PLANTED THE 12 ROSES IN FRONT OF HER DAUGHTER'S NEW HOUSE AND THEY ALL CAME UP THE NEXT YEAR-----ASK ME IF SHE WAS HAPPY WITH 12 NEW ROSE BUSHES--IF YOU MUST DRY THEM YOU CAN PUT THEM INDIVIDUALLY INTO THE MICRO-WAVE ON LOW AND DRY THEM-----WATCH VERY CAREFULLY THEY MAY BURN---PUT THEM BETWEEN 2 PAPER TOWELS

AB
Reply:My boyfriend hangs them upside down in a cool place %26amp; you can also get silica sand %26amp; bury them in that.
Reply:hang them upside down by their stems to dry out. thats all i do. they will be very delicate so be careful not to break them once they are dry...i still have some roses from my husband from 12 years ago.

Looking for flower cutting gardens?
Finding this information seems to be impossible without knowing the area you live in.

The only information that comes up is how to plan a cutting garden or how to use the flowers you get from a cutting garden. Perhaps with a location some possible places would come up.

Thank you for telling me that you are looking for locations in the Midwest--that's where I'm from, too!

Here's what I found:

One really helpful place online is a search engine to find organic farms by location. You can also specify a product (in this case "flowers") and it will give results for that. It can be found at:

I've used aspirin, and also coffee grounds.

When a loved one passes away to send fresh flowers?

Why do you think it's important when a loved one passes away to send fresh flowers or a live plant to the funeral home in addition to any monetary contribution to their charity of choice, if that is your desire rather than in place of sending flowers or plants?

When a loved one passes away to send fresh flowers?
No one expects flowers And contribution. You make a choice.
Reply:its a great sign of respect...
Reply:Yes, it makes things less gloomy and shows respect for the person as you read the cards.

The plants and most flowers are given afterwards to the church, someone in a nursing home, or one of the relatives to keep to home.
Reply:When my grandmother passed she said that she would not enjoy the flowers for obvious reasons and asked us all to donate that money for the poor. "If you want to give me a flower, give it to me while I'm alive", she said.

People didn't listen except for a few. We filled two trucks with flowers.

On the other hand, my co-workers bought a tree for me (I was doing my landscaping at the time) when my father passed. It was a way for me to remember his life.

Like someone said before me, it's a sign of respect.
Reply:i send plastic flowers then i ask for them back after the funeral....i reuse them..one bunch of flowers for $2.50 lasts me several funerals
Reply:it's all about your choice but before you do anything check if the family wishes are different and/or specific instead of flowers or contribution.

What is a good alternative to flower arrangements at a wedding?

I am helping a friend plan her wedding. Our budget is basically non-exsistent. We had planned to gather fresh flowers for the table centerpieces. Now we are having a drought and due to an accident on the bridge to our Island, we have had to stop irrigating! There is very little chance that we will be able to find flowers. Any creative suggestions will be appreciated! The wedding colors and blue and teal. No special theme - just inexpensive (or free would be even better). Thanks.

What is a good alternative to flower arrangements at a wedding?
I went to a wedding a couple weeks ago and they had nice table centerpieces. They had heart shaped dishes (the bride got them for a dollar a piece at the dollar store) filled with hersheys kisses, hugs, etc. Then, she took some fake wedding rings, (a dollar a bag at the dollar store) and took 2 and tied them together with a piece of pretty white ribbon. She just scatterd them around the heart dishes. It was really really cute. At the main table, they had pretty much the same thing, except the main centerpiece was a picture of the couple in a really nice frame. Good luck!

Reply:Try a "minimalist" arrangement of driftwood or dried twigs (gathered, of course) sprayed with spray-glue and dusted with teal and blue glitter. The twigs can be held up in not-too tall containers filled with dry sand (from the island's beach). Even tin cans can be cleaned up and spray painted with metallic paint.

Use those little "tea light" candles (really cheap) strategically placed within the arrangement. - punch holes in the tin cans with a hammer and various sized nails and punches, chisels etc. for a folksy lantern effect.

Use a larger piece of driftwood and inexpensive pillar candles for the head table.
Reply:Fruit centerpieces, they smell good and are a hell of a lot cheaper than flowers! (ex. whole apples, oranges, kiwi, etc)
Reply:Get shallow but wide mouth clear dishes. Fill them with water and use floating candles (which I'm sure can be found in blue and teal) and petals (real or fake). The dishes don't have to be the same, that can add to the uniqueness of every table and ease the burden of finding however many of the same exact dish. I included a picture that is a little more extravagant but can be toned down and still work. Hope it all goes well!
Reply:Get glass hurricane vases (closed on the bottom) head to the beach then fill them 1/3 of the way up with sand, then place a white or blue or teal tall thick candle in them. Very inexpensive and very classy. Candles are always the way to go.
Reply:I like the whole fruit in a glass bowl...it looks very fresh! You could also get sand ($5 at a home store for 50 pounds) and put some fresh branches, etc coming out from a vase....
Reply:Purchase matting for a picture frame (1 for each table) place in the center w/ some markers/pens %26amp; have the guests write their best wishes to the bride %26amp; groom on the matting. Then once they have pictures developed from the wedding %26amp; honeymoon, they can use them - no money wasted! And matting is extremly cheap. Shouldn't cost more than $20 for all of the tables.
Reply:Try Gold fish in any type of bowl, I'm sure you could even go to a second hand store to find some. Put two in each bowl; a white one and a black one (bride and groom) then tie a ribbon around the top in blue and/or teal. Fish are usually pretty cheap. If you want go one better allow someone from each table to them home and then there is no worries about what to do with them after the wedding. Make it a game.

Have fun.
Reply:Go to your local dollar store! Little chests or jewelry boxes with necklaces or strings of beads in your wedding colors on pretty tapestry style table mats or scraps of material would be very pretty as well as inexpensive. It can be formal or informal. You could also use china bowls(either have or buy cheap) and fill them with snacks that you had already planned for your wedding. The cupcake racks that are at Walmart are cheap and would be nice also. Good Luck!
Reply:we went to the dollar store and got candles.. and glass hurricain lamps... then take a flower or two and sprinkle peadles
Reply:Pick up some thin twigs and branches, use silver spray paint to paint them, arrange them in a decorative fashion. use a few blue and teal fake or paper flowers, and there you have it
Reply:I think that candles are the way to go. They are very inexpensive and bring a romantic feel to any wedding. You could just get some candles (omit the vase to cut costs and to bring a little natural elegance). I would put maybe three different sized candles on each table and sprinkle some blue/teal pebble rocks (you can get them at any craft store) on each table as well.
Reply:Flower Balls. If u have HEB grocery stores they can special order the amount of flower bunches needed at no shipping cost.Flower bunches of 7 open roses are only $1 a bunch %26amp; you only need 3 1/2 for each.Foam is $1 at dollar stores. You just stick them all around evenly %26amp; it looks pretty big %26amp; elegant for only $4.50 a piece. Also next to that I am putting a little frame that you use for the guest names,I made color copies of a picture of us %26amp; put it in the frame instead of the name. They come 6 for a $1 at the dollar stores. On each of our parents tables will be a silver frame of an 8 1/2 X 11.So thats only 2 big frames for about $5.00.
Reply:candles EVERYWHERE... michaels sells them in bulk for cheaper, and dollar store for candles... if you have some fake flowers at home you could put with the candles?
Reply:Have you already ordered the cake?

If not, it is cheaper to make (or buy) small cakes and put one on each table as the center piece than it is to buy an expensive tall fancy cake.

Basically the best way to save money when planning a wedding is to try and use things for duplicate reasons. Then you can cut out something... make sense?

Or make your centerpieces be the same thing that you give out as favors...etc.

Good luck!
Reply:1. Get a mirror. Put a hurricane lamp on the mirror with a cream or white candle (to make it look lighter). On the mirror, sprinkle some sparkles/confetti that match your colors. Decorate the hurricane lamp with some blue ribbon and make a bow or something for it with some silk flowers (arts and crafts store).

2. Get a tall glass vase. Put feathers (the long white ones, or mix-and-match) inside and fill the vase about half way with sparkles/confetti that match your colors. (saw this on TV -- actually looked cool)

3. See #1, but use a wider bowl instead of the hurricane lamps, and use floating candles.

Good luck!
Reply:I used balloons. You can buy a little hand pump pretty cheap at a party store. then tie them to a "balloon stick" and put them in a plastic flute glass filled with candy or what ever to hold them up straight. You can fill one balloon with another and that looks pretty cool. Ask at your local party or craft store how to do that since it's hard to explain.
Reply:I decorated the church with greenery, plumosa fern, springherii, variegated ivy, with baby's breath and rented large fern for side accents. The variegated bows on these arrangements, accented the wedding colors and the wedding party were thecenter of attention. Simple, but elegant
Reply:The best thing I can think of that is inexpensive is hershey kisses
Reply:Here are a few suggestions. They can be used separately or together creatively. Try balloons, ice sculptures or fruit sculptures. Also, you can visit a hobby store and ask them about making ribbon flowers. Hand made ribbon roses can look especially nice when set in a vase of crystal stones or designed into a large centerpiece. A hobby store like "Michaels" can give you more ideas. Good luck with your centerpieces.

How can you dry fresh flowers?

Especially roses and daisies.

How can you dry fresh flowers?
I agree with the other poster - tying rubber band around the bottom and hanging them upside down works well, but sometimes if you have a large bouquet, the flowers can get smooshed together.

If you have space, try separating some of the flowers, so they don't get compressed by the weight of the flowers.

Also, flowers dry better if they are freshly cut and have not been in water for a long time. If the flowers, particularly roses, have already been in water for a while and are a bit on the older side once you start drying them, they may smell a little funky as you dry them. I've heard that using a few spritzes of hairspray (the stuff with alcohol in it) on them might help them not stink.
Reply:Tie a rubber band around the bottom of the stems and then hang the roses upside down for 4 to 5 days. You will have a beautiful bouguet of dry roses in no time.

cut a little off each day at an angle fresh water everyday and an asprin
Reply:Put a few copper cents in there,

Cut the end in a til, not straight, but sideways,

Change the water.

Reply:Leave them in the ground.
Reply:Add alittle bit of bleach in the water, and a teaspoon of sugar.
Reply:With a very sharp knife, cut an inch or so off the stems underwater. (Avoids crushing the stem and closing it up, also lets the fresh cut suck up more water).

Change the water every day and drop an aspirin in it. (Don't know what it does but it works).
Reply:Tulips don't last that long anyway, but I have found adding a tablespoon of bleach to any flower water seems to make them last longer in general. Worth a try!

I need to know how to freeze fresh flowers from a funeral!?

I need to know how to freeze fresh flowers from a funeral!?
Click this link for directions: http://www.florage.com/drying_flowers.ht...

What I did with the flower I got from my Grandmother's funeral was hung it upsidedown. Just spray it with hairspray %26amp; it'll last forever.
Reply:A good way to preserve flowers is getting some silica gel-beads (looks like sand) and putting the flower in it . Read the directions on how long to microwave it for.

The silica will suck every last bit of moisture from the flower, but keep it perfectly preserved. You can then spray it with some lacquer to keep them forever.

You should be able to find silica from art/craft stores.
Reply:I've never heard of freezing them. Flowers often turn black when they are frozen.

You can dry them. Hang them upside down in a dark place for a week or so.
Reply:Some flowers can not be frozen.

Your local flower shop would be happy to loOK at them and tell you, if it is ok.

they will never be the same ,,,why dont you press them in some books

Which solution works best for keeping cut flowers fresh?

I've heard people talk about using bleach, aspirin, lemon juice, vodka, and of course the florists' packets that bouquets come, for keeping flowers fresh. Is there any definitive right answer as to which really works the best?

Which solution works best for keeping cut flowers fresh?
I always use aspirin and I diagonally cut the end of my flowers daily. I have had roses last 3+ weeks.
Reply:As far as water additives go, there's no "right" answer. All of those things help reduce bacteria in the water which helps the flowers live longer. Use which ever of them you want, they should all work well as long as you change the water daily and cut the stems of the flowers (at an angle).
Reply:I have tried several of these, but my flowers have lasted longer by removing all leaves below the water line, cutting stems at an angle under running water, and frequently replacing the water in the vase with fresh, cold water. Removing the leaves is important so they do not decay and foul the water more quickly. Also, make sure you use a clean vase, even bleaching and rinsing well after use, before the next flowers.

Happy Valentine's Day!!
Reply:i have tryed asprin and it does work for a while, i think fresh water every day is just as good and bruise the stems so there is more surface for the water to go up the stems.
Reply:I watched a programme on TV recently, they tried all the methods you mentioned and monitored the flowers for a week. They all died at the same rate, the ones that lasted the longest were the one with just water that was changed on a regular basis. Everything else was found to be a myth.

Enjoy your flowers too.

How would you go about perserving fresh flowers that you want to keep?

I took three roses off of the "sisters" arrangment that my middle sister and I went in together when our oldest sister past away recently. I would like to know how to perserve these flowers and possible putting them in a frame. If I don't do something soon they won't be any good. I have them in the fridge but something needs to be done soon. Any suggestions and the easier the better. Thanks

How would you go about perserving fresh flowers that you want to keep?
Materials

Air-Drying: pruners or sharp scissors; string or rubber bands; pole, drying rack, or other means of hanging flower bunches; newspaper or dropcloth

Using Drying Agents: pruners or sharp scissors, shallow airtight plastic or glass container; drying agent such as silica gel (a granulated drying agent you can find at florist or craft suppliers), sand, and/or cornmeal

Pressing Plants: squares of corrugated cardboard, sheets of newspaper, 2 plywood boards (all cut to the same size); something to bind the stack (belt or bungee cord) or weight it (heavy books or bricks).

I found a web site to let you see what you are doing.

Reply:If you want to put them into a frame, you will need to flatten them. Put your flowers in between two pieces of wax paper, then "sandwich" the wax paper between two heavy books. Leave it there for a week or so and your flower will dry flat. After it is dry be sure to handle it delicately, it will break easily, then do with it what you wish. If you want to keep the flower in its natural shape, hang it upside down and let it dry. I like to wrap a rubber band around the stem of the flower and then loop the rubber band around a door knob, this way there is nothing flattening a single side of the flower like hanging it on a wall might do. Hope this helps.
Reply:I would check on the internet for weddings. Many brides save their bouquets using techniques that speciality florist have. A wedding planner would probably also know.

What do you call sculptures made of fresh/dried flowers?

Guys, what do you call 3D sculptures made of fresh / dried flowers? And does any1 know where i could find some photographs and/or tutorials? Thanks

What do you call sculptures made of fresh/dried flowers?
A fresh or dried flower Sculpture.

Most likely Floral Design.

You will see fresh versions of this done in floral creations or arrangements, done by florists.

Garden Structures would be done by landscapers.

What a great idea! You can see from the answers that you have gotten that you may have hooked into something unique as there is not a lot known or seen about it.

For tutorials; try using floral foam, there is a specific type if you are going to use fresh or dried flowers.

Michael's and Wall Mart carry the one for dried flowers. For the fresh floral foam, go and ask a florist if they could sell you some.

Wrap screen door metal mesh around the shape/form that you want to create.

Puncture the form with a knife in the various places that you intend on using the flowers and insert the foliage and flowers.

Using greenery will help you" Fill In" as a backdrop which helps hides the form Wire, mesh. It is also less costly to use than flowers alone. you may need to make a base in order for your sulpture to stand upright.

You can look under floral design in yahoo and take it from there. There are also courses that you can take.

HGTV is also good.

Hope this helped,

Cheers!
Reply:Hello.

Professionally, you can just call it Installation or assemblage.

The idea is more important that the material that you will be using.

American artist, Jeff Koons had done a huge sculpture in the shape of a giant scottish puppy and also used flowers as materials.

Reply:A float in the Rose Bowl Parade?
Reply:Would they be called dead natures, as the paintings with the same motives are called? that's something new for me. If you refer to those beautiful sculptures with plants the Japanese do, otherwise, it would be called Bonsai.
Reply:art of flower arranging?

Or if you cover a float with it (usually the flowers are attached to a chickenwire covered shape, see first link) then I don't know how it's called, but you find images of it by searching for flower parades.

Or it's just called sculpture, maybe mixed media sculpture if it is used as by Anna Gallacio.

Or if you plant the flowers it's called gardening.
Reply:I have never heard of any specific name or style name for this type of sculpture. You can try websites and books from the library on floral arranging, then take it big for effect.
Reply:I believe it's called a "still-life". Even though the flowers are dead, it is still a still-life. Are you painting, drawing or photographing them or are they themselves the actual artwork? I will find out at school.

How do I start a Wild Flower Garden?

I want to be able to cut fresh flowers this summer, I just bought a house and was wondering what i would have to do to grow them, do i need a shady area or high sunlight? I am a gardening Novice that would love to make this my hobby.

How do I start a Wild Flower Garden?
Wild flowers grow in different areas of shade or sun depending on where they originated in the wild. Many wildflowers have specific needs regarding soil, light and moisture. In some cases, the conditions can be changed to create more favorable growing conditions, but in the long run, it is always easier to select wildflowers that are suited for the existing location. Planting flowers that are native to your area makes growing them easier, too.

Coneflowers, Black-eyed-Susans, Liatris, etc like a lot of sun.

The best plants for the more heavily shaded areas to partially shaded are those found in the woods in their native habitat, such as Violets, Bluebells, Lilies of the Valley, %26amp; Wild Ginger.

Here's how to plant a meadow of wildflowers:

http://www.life.ca/nl/43/flowers.html

I've just bought a wildflower seed combination pack called "North American Wildflowers" of native plants. It includes wildflower seed, fertilizer, %26amp; mulch in one package for less than $2. It says to "plant in the spring %26amp; to water daily until plants are established (4-6 weeks). Mow plants to 4" in the fall after the flowers have bloomed." The annuals will bloom the first year, but some perennials will not bloom until the second year.

I've also bought a pkg of 6 Lilly-of-the Valley (Convallaria) pips %26amp; a pkg of 12 Liatris bulbs ( tuberous corms). These I've planted in pots indoors now, but the Liatris will go in my sunniest spot outdoors, when I get a chance, %26amp; the Convallaria is eventually going under my trees.

You can plant some wildflower seeds soon %26amp; surprise yourself with what will grow from a small pack of seeds. Also, if you purchase %26amp; plant one blooming plant of several different varieties of wildflowers you'll find you'll have all the seeds you need in the fall. Many wildflower seeds are planted outdoors in the fall or spring. Some are planted indoors 6-8 weeks before the last spring frost date. The back of the seed packs will give you this information.

Besides planting by bulbs %26amp; corms, Liatris, %26amp; many other bulbous wildflowers, can also be grown through seeds you've purchased (or collected once they have matured, in late summer to early fall), and sown into flats that can be left outdoors throughout winter and will germinate once the temperature and soil begins warming in the spring. These plants can also be allowed to self sow in open areas of the garden for a pleasant surprise later in the growing season once they begin blooming. The tuberous corms of older plants can also be dug up and divided in late winter while the plant is dormant.

Here's a list of some wildflowers %26amp; their moisture/sun/shade requirements:

Thank you so much!!!! Report It

Reply:Till up some dirt in a mostly sunny area - plant wildflower seeds. Water every evening (Not during the day when the sun can evaporate the water) - let grow. Have fun cutting!!!!!
Reply:Find out what kind of wild flowers are indigenous to your area, and plant them, they will grow the best. clean the area you desire to plant, broad cast the seeds selected and cover with a thin layer of top soil, garden soil or, potting soil. 1/4 to 1/2 inch should be fine.
Reply:theres a thing you can buy.... its like two pounds of random wild flower seeds... for 4 bucks.... i used a rake to rake my soil around.... and spread them around...... i even had too many so i randomly threw some (without tilling soil) in the city parks and such.
Reply:Gardening stores sell wild flower seeds. The instructions for planting are on the bag. They can be planted about any where! Some people even plant them in the lawn in patches. They look great. If every one just had grass it would not be a very pretty place!!!We even plant some bright flowers in our garden, it adds a bit of color to it!!You can also plant wild flowers in hanging pots to add color. We use trelesus for cucumbers, and have morning glories growing with them!! The more variation you have the better your garden will look. People will comment on it too...I wish i could start now..Got to get rid of 2 ft of snow first!!!

Is there anything you can mix with the water of a flower vase to keep the flower more fresh?

Change the water every day and put one aspirin in.

Half and Half Sprite and Water
Reply:sugar, that's probably the reason the soda annother person suggested works. I did a science project on this in 5th grade and I still remember it! hehe. I think it's because plants need the glucose to continue functioning.
Reply:sprite works real well.
Reply:If you buy flowers at your local food store or floral shop they usually put those packets of flower reserves in with them. You can add this reserve to water and then put the flowers in.

Reply:A tablet of aspirin is the usual, there are many formula on sale for this specific need, frequent change of water is also recommended.
Reply:Try an aspirin or the flower food that comes with the flowers.Try a sugar substitute such as one splenda, etc.
Reply:! Bayer Asprin crushed up then add water

What is the best way to care for fresh sunflowers?

I was at a sunflower farm today and picked up some fresh flowers. Now that I have them home and in a vase of lukewarm water, what is the best way to keep them looking nice for a long time?

What is the best way to care for fresh sunflowers?
Always cut fresh flower stims at an angle. A little plant food in your water won't hurt either. As much as we would like to keep

fresh cut flowers around, they will only last so long. Sad I know.
Reply:there is nothing you can do, really, other than water.
Reply:You can water them every day and make sure they get a lot of sun-light and they will grow for sure.

I put glass marbles, shells, citrus (lemons and limes), buttons, popurri, dog treats (the bone shaped ones are cute) and in the bathroom, I have a vase filled with pretty bath salts that makes the whole room smell wonderful.

Long painted sticks almost twice the length of the vase itself with a contrasting color sand to hold the sticks in place.

Plant that lives on water.

Add different types of lentils and rice in layers to make it look colorful. Then on the neck of the vase use a raffia to go round the neck and tie it in a bow . It looks very nice.

Try Sam's Club. We use lots of cut flowers in our B%26amp;B, and Sam's delivers weekly at almost wholesale!
Reply:The floral nursery
Reply:any flower shop can help you order, if this is a business venture use your eic# and order yourself, and depending on where you live it can be hard to get fresh cut directly from grower...lots of systems in place (middlemen) but if your order iis large or often repeated then you may find a grower to deliver/send direct.

1800flowers.com - I've used them a few times and they're good. Also, you can try ediblearrangements.com if you want to do a fruit arrangement that's more unique, and really tasty!

You can order boxed fresh roses, flowers, candy, bouquets, as well as professional floral arrangements for the holidays and all occasions.
Reply:Companies like 1800flowers, ftd, teleflora, and even your local florists DO NOT send fresh flowers. Their flowers have been sitting around in storage coolers for days and will wilt quickly.

Only a few companies send "fresh" flowers ie. hand-picked, direct from the grower, grower-fresh (look for these terms when ordering)

My favorite is (I've used them for years and always recommend them):

http://www.order-flowers-delivery.com/

and I hear proflowers.com is good/fresh as well, but i've read some reviews that say sometimes their flowers aren't "direct from the grower" either.
Reply:Click this link for several places that will send flowers for you:

Reply:proflowers sends flowers directly from the growers to the recipient. my mom has recieved flowers from them several times and they have been great. Once the flowers got overheated during delivery (it was 100 degrees the day they were delivered) they completely replaced them and were very helpful.

Anyone know where to find cheap fresh cut flowers in the Boston area?

I know there are wholesale dealers for the florists, but what about those of us who are just normal people. Where can I get loose fresh cut flowers (not in a bouquet) and not pay pre-arranged arrangement prices?

Anyone know where to find cheap fresh cut flowers in the Boston area?
Sorry I am not familiar with specific flower shops in the Boston area, but what you are looking for is a Flower Market. They are a lot cheaper and they sell flowers individually so you can make your own bouquets or whatever. Try to search for flower markets in boston.

Good luck!
Reply:Farmer's Market or Costco.

How do you preserve fresh-picked flowers for at least 3 days?

I'm going to sell flowers Mums and Roses. But from what I notice, roses wilt very fast. Is there any way I could maintain their fresh look?

How do you preserve fresh-picked flowers for at least 3 days?
A few drops of bleach in the water to hinder bacteria, plus sugar. There is also a cut flower preservative you can buy to put in the water (ask at a flower shop). Additionally you have to keep roses COLD.
Reply:Put some coffee grinds in the water or sugar. when putting the flowers in a vase or bucket.
