I already have the wristlet for the wrist corsage. how do i attach fresh flowers to it?

Does your wristlet come with a florist block? If not attach a small one with a bit of hot glue and use little metal sewing pins to attach the flowers. Bend the pins at the bottom and fold them into the block to avoid a nasty little pin prick.

I already have the wristlet for the wrist corsage. how do i attach fresh flowers to it?
To make a corsage, you need foliage, flowers, some florist wire and floral stem wrap. If you don't have florist wire, you need floral glue. Arrange your foliage however you like, wrap the stem wrap around the stems of the leaves; the bow needs florist wire so that you can add it to the leaves, wrap the leaves and the bow together with stem wrap. Then glue the flowers on to the sturdy part of the foliage and bow combo. When you're done, the metal clips can then be wrapped around the stems of the corsage; then you can wrap the lower clip with stem wrap to hide the clip; cut the stems of the corsage to the appropriate length. Florists use tulle, nice ribbons, pearls, lights, and silk leaves to make a wrist corsage. If you have tulle, you can add the tulle with the foliage first before you glue your flowers. See sample corsage at

Flies all over my my flower shop..i wonder how & why..?

90% of flowers in my shop are artificial ones.. the balance are fresh flowers like chrysantumum and ect. theres so much of flies and i find it so hard to get rid of it..it sits mostly on my fresh flowers.. weird.. suggestions please..Thanks!

Flies all over my my flower shop..i wonder how %26amp; why..?
What kind of flies?

If they are tiny and look like fruit flies or gnats, you might have drain flies. Drain flies breed in drains, compost buckets, and other such things, but are also attracted to flowers and fruits...and mouthwash, as I have just discovered.

Do a google on drain flies and see if this is what they might be. You'll also find some home treatment remedies if you don't want to go the exterminator route.

You can also set out a jar of vinegar and honey (or, mouthwash), and this will attract them and hopefully help keep them off your plants until you can find the source of the problem and eradicate them.
Reply:Don't ever let the water your flowers are in get even a little slimy. It's bad for the flowers anyway but more important to your problem is the fact that flies love decaying plant matter just as much as they love other forms of rot. I have to be so careful with cut flowers in the summer. Don't just add more water, drain the old stuff and keep the containers clean. A mild bleach solution and a good rinse works well..
Reply:There is one type of small fly that lives in damp soil of potted plants. Let your pots' soil get on the dry side between waterings.

Buy Insecticidal soap which comes in a spray bottle and spray the tops and bottoms of leaves on the live plants. Spray the soils' too.

Set small containers of lids or bowls of vinegar around your shop. Most of these small plant flies will go to the vinegar and be trapped or die.
Reply:Flies need something to breed in, like trash or a dead animal. Look around for something you've overlooked.

What is the best way to care for gerberas in a flower arrangement? (Please read details!)?

My daughter's first birthday party is this Saturday and I wanted to get pink Gerberas for the tables, but I am not the best with plants and flowers and keeping things alive... Am I completely safe to get the flowers the night before so I have less to do the morning of the party? Will they still look firm and fresh? Also - what should I put them in (besides water)...or basically, how do YOU care for flower arrangements?

Thank you!!!

What is the best way to care for gerberas in a flower arrangement? (Please read details!)?
Gerberas are notorious for being the first ones to go in an arrangement of mixed flowers. Sure you can buy them the day before the party and they will last overnight if the florist hasn't' had them for a while before selling them.

What I do is when I get them home I cut all the stems about 1" at an angle. Then if the florist has given you a packet of flower life extender then I add that to fresh warm water and immediately place the freshly cut flowers in. If you don't get the extender then you can use 7-UP or an aspirin in the water with one drop of bleach to prevent algae. Then I re-cut the flowers everyday and add fresh water.

Happy birthday to your daughter!
Reply:I always purchase my floral arrangements the day before parties or events. I keep them in the fridge overnight to keep them fresh. In the morning, I check the water and sometimes change it. I also check the ends of the stems to see whether they need a fresh cut. Some people swear by putting an asprin in the water to keep them fresher longer, but I usually just use the little preservative packetts included with the flowers.
Reply:Gerbera Daisy is no different than any other cut flowers... Just Keep it watered, and in a cool dry place (out of sunshine and away from heat) if you want a longer time than just the day with the arrangements....

It should be safe to get then the day before, provided you pick out healthy looking ones...NO brownish looking or wilted anything in the bunch..... and keep them in the air-conditioning till put out onto the tables......Happy Birthday to your daughter , good luck with your party, and Have FUN!

My kitten is jumping everywhere 1 thing that is bad is she tips over the vase of fresh flowers is there help?

is there a sent that i can put on the table so she wont go near them ,,,and we have also moved the flowers in different places too

My kitten is jumping everywhere 1 thing that is bad is she tips over the vase of fresh flowers is there help?
There are scents you can use to discourage your kitten from going places you'd prefer her not to. Pet stores carry a product called "Piss (ooo ... a name that Yahoo! doesn't seem to allow on line. It means "urination" and starts with a "P". There's also an "i" and two "s" -) Off", more for repelling urination in areas. One of the other contributors suggested playing with your kitten, and I'm sure you do, but you really have to wear 'em out. I do kitty daycare for this incredibly adorable kitten who also likes to jump up on stuff she shouldn't. I just scoop her up in my arms, lay her on her back and kiss the top of her head until she yowls to get away. You'd be surprized how well that works. They are just too cute to do anything else with.

P.S. That was a lot of work to tell you a legitimate product name. Holy cow! Talk about censorship.

How long can I keep a hydrangea flower completely submerged in water?

It's been in the water for about a day now and the bloom is looking fresh and firm. When should I start to worry about this pretty flower beginning to rot?

Trimming fresh flowers?

why should the stems be held under running water when i trim them

Trimming fresh flowers?
becaue the stems contain capillaries (like straws) that lead water up to the bloom. when you cut the stem, air will go into the capillaries and cause early deterioration of the bloom. if you cut it under water, no air can enter the capillaries.

Trim flower stems every time you change water??

are you supposed to?

What if i change the water every day??? Trim stems everyday??

-Fresh Cut Flowers-

Trim flower stems every time you change water??
Just a little slanted cut, so they will absorb fresh water.
Reply:I just don't get rude people like you. Why ask a question if you think you already know all? That is incredibly rude %26amp; childish. My family's been in the floral business for 50+ years and you don't NEED to CHANGE WATER or cut stems every day! You CAN, but it just isn't necessary. Try being polite? Report It

Reply:You don't have to do it every time, but you should sometimes and when you do, cut them at an angle.

Change the water every few days.

You might also try a pinch of sugar or an aspirin in the water. A friend of mine says it helps them last longer. Good luck!
Reply:The longest my flowers usually last is a week, so no I don't bother cutting the stems
Reply:You don't have to change the water every day, just often enough that bacteria doesn't build up %26amp; start rotting the stems. If you add a few drops of bleach to your water, or use a packet of floral preservative, you won't have to change it as often. When you are changing the water, never crush the stems, as the damaged tissue will not absorb water well...That's why making a sharp cut at an angle is advised.

If you use sugar or other powdered mixes in your water, the stems can get clogged up, %26amp; cutting them will help open them up to take in more water. Recutting removes the section of stem in which microorganisms may have multiplied and begun to plug the stem’s water-transporting cells.

You will also have to change the water %26amp; recut the stems if flowers develop a bent neck, because they might have an air lock in their stems and are unable to absorb water properly.

http://www1.umn.edu/webdd/harvest/cutflo...
Reply:You don't need to change the water every day but when you do change it, you CAN trim the stems, but it isn't a necessity unless they are looking a bit slimy. Just be careful to never use scissors to cut stems, as they will only crush the stem and eep water from flowing up the stems. This is particularly true for roses. Always use a sharp knife at an angle and get immediately back into the water. Every moment out of water is a chance for an air bubble to get traveling up the stem. Once the air bubble hits the head, you'll have wilted flowers.

How to dye fresh flowers?

Depending on the kind of flower, your best bet is to put food coloring into a small amount of water and then place the stems in. In a matter of time, the flower will soak up the dye and change color. This works great with white carnations.

Florists also sell floral spray that is colored, but that' not the same thing.

Our wedding is this weekend. I want to know how can I get just flowers if possible cheaper without them doing the arrangement. I've been calling places and they are extremely high and we don't have enough time to drive to houston. Does anyone know of place around 1960 the woodlands or someplace like that? Please help me!!! Thank you

Try your local chain supermarket. Most have a nice floral department and if you are not having them arranged, you can usually save quite a bit of money. I would order them ASAP and tell them when you want to pick them up so you get the freshest they can get in by then.

Have you talked to anyone at Walmart? They buy huge quantities and might give you a price break. good luck
Reply:Hi Susanatex. have you tried going out loop 336 toward Porter? I think there are some small, rose growers out that way...with this lite frost we've had it might be difficult to get anything fresh this late in the game...Maybe check the florists @ the larger supermarkets in The Woodlands/Conroe and see if they might have something that they could cut their pricing on for you. Good Luck and many happy years...with or without the fresh flowers!

Shouldn't we allow gays in the church so we always have help with interior decoration and fresh flowers?

Antonio is so good at our church. He's always suggesting new draperies and ornaments around the church just to dress it up and every week he brings in fresh flower arrangements for the church.

I attend a Religious Science church - and our minister is gay. Our Sanctuary is BEAUTIFUL!!! (and yes - we do have gorgeous flower arrangements too!)

I don't agree with Pilgrim above. I think you are hysterical.

The purpose of the church is to show the love of Christ to ALL individuals regardless of sexual orientation. However, we are to lovingly steer those in sin,(remember! ALL fall short of the glory of God), to the truth of God's Word and pray for them to truly repent and turn from their sin.

This goes for all of us.

As for the decor.....it's not about lifestyle, it's about talent.
Reply:Yes and you should love them all the way to Jesus. Because as Christians we should be concerned about every soul that is lost in sin, not worry about decorations, that is like using them for your purpose without any regard to their soul.

Is it true that an asprin helps fresh cut flowers to last longer?

yes aspirin does lengthen the life of fresh cut flowers

Is it true that an asprin helps fresh cut flowers to last longer?
Ask p allen smith .com. He is an expert in gardening!
Reply:no i have tried that and it does not work. In fact the packages of whatever comes with cut flowers does not actually do anything for them either. I find the cutting the stems at a angle, adding water every day and changing it every couple days and re-cutting the stems works the best.
Reply:There are many answers to this one question. Some say yes and some say no. I have used many different things with my fresh cut flowers. I use a sugar water with hollow stems and aspirin with hard stems. When you bring home the flowers you need to re-cut them under running water. Roses and other hard stems should be cut at a 45 deg angle. Hollow stems cut straight. Remember to add fresh water daily and change it before it slimes up. The cut flowers will take in the water and like it to be fresh. This also helps with the clean up of the vase when the flowers are finish with their blooms.
Reply:There are many little magazine studies about this kind of thing. The one I read said that it didn't have an effect on it, and that water worked best Another said hard alcoholic beverages like gin helped when diluted. I'm not quite sure though.

Does anyone make beaded flowers--I need a flower maker!?

HI there!

I have an upcoming wedding in September and have decided on beaded flowers in place of the traditional fresh flowers. I know I definetly want orange lillies, and possibly roses. I'm trying to get quotes from different flower makers for a total of 4 bouquets. Are you a beaded flower maker? Or do you know someone that makes them? If so, shoot me an email (with pics of your work if possible) and maybe we can talk some buisness! thanks!

I am having difficulty obtaining fresh Lotus flowers in the UK. Where or how I can purchase lotus flowers?

Are you looking to buy just the flower? or the plant?

Lotus is not a traditional cut flower. I don't know how it does as a cut flower. It may not be available. Check with a local "high end" florist, they're more likely to bring in such an exotic flower. Large chains or small independents are most likely targeting mainstream customers.

If you're looking for the plant, it is an aquatic plant. You should be able to find it at a local garden center that sells or specializes in garden ponds or water gardens.

I hope that this helps

Fresh Flowers?
Hallmark does an awesome job on their flower delivery. When my brother and sister in law lost their baby, people from across the country sent beautiful fresh flowers this way. They came in a box, you just need to open it quickly, and follow directions. They come through the mail, or ups, or fed ex. They were gorgeous. There are other companies mentioned, and they sometimes have these little capules of water, for the bottoms of the stems, or some way of delivering. It is awesome, and they make it work, because it is their insurance on getting orders the next time. I hope to do this with my Great Aunt, that lives far way.

How could I keep my flowers in their vases fresh for a longer period of time?

I often have flowers like roses and hydrangeas and they becomes dry easily.

How could I keep my flowers in their vases fresh for a longer period of time?
Cut flowers derive nutrients from the water that you keep them in. The cut on the stem is like a cut on your skin; it heals or seals. After some time, the stem seals itself, which is why you need to re-cut the stems every 4-5 days (about 1/2 inch) and change out the water. For nutrients, if you do not have a packet that come with the flowers, a tablespoon of sugar will do, also.

For bulb flowers, such as tulips, another item to observe is that the flower is there to attract the insect to get the pollen. Turn the flower upside-down and pull out or cut out the parts with the pollen on it. These are the pistils in the center. Be careful not to let the pollen spill on to the flower. In this manner, you full nature into thinking that pollination has not occurred and the flower will remain intact longer.

Best luck!

Fresh Cut Flowers?

Is there anything you can put in the water of fresh cut flowers to make them last longer?

Fresh Cut Flowers?
http://www.bbg.org/gar2/topics/design/20...

The real secrets are sharp cutting instrument, warm water, and a floral preservative of some sort. In a pinch, half and half regular (not diet) lemon lime soda pop and water works well.
Reply:I always use the package that comes with them. I also cut the ends when I first get them and then put them in the water and 1/3 of the package. Then in 4 or 5 days I cut the ends again and use 1/3 of the package and fresh water. I do this until the flowers die, they will last about 2 weeks doing this. I still have flowers from mothers day.
Reply:If you are talking about flowers you cut from your garden, just put an aspirin in the water. I use it all the time, and it works great. Good Luck.
Reply:I just use the little packet that comes with them. Just keep plenty of fresh water in the container and out of direct sunlight.
Reply:Florists always supply a tiny sachet of a product to prolong flowers, so I would enquire there.

How do you keep sent flowers fresh?

cut the stem ends off (about an inch or two) at an angle. Put them in a vase with cool, not cold, water and put an aspirin in the water. Make sure not to place them direct sunlight or heat . Change the water every couple of days and depending on the type of flower the should stay nice for a week or two.

How can I keep roses in a vase fresh longer?

I've hear putting aspirin in the vase with your flowers helps them stay fresh for longer... is this true? if not. how can I keep them fresh?

How can I keep roses in a vase fresh longer?
Aspirin doesn't work.

"Experimentation shows this method doesn't work well."

http://www.gomestic.com/Gardening/What-W...

Aspirin, in fact, had an adverse affect. The flowers appeared unhealthy, were wilted, brownish, and very dry.The aspirin solution may have been pulling the water from the cells of the plant. Since we observed the stems of the Aspirin group becoming brown, it is possible that the cells were drying out and dying.

Keep your arrangement out of the sun.

It'll last longer if not overheated, away from bright lights, %26amp; out of drafts. A cooler area is better.Keep the water clean by changing it every couple of days so bacteria doesn't make it rot. Remove any lower leaves that would otherwise be immersed under water as they will rot and shorten the life of your flowers

Some people even add a drop of bleach to the water.

"Suggestions range from adding a few drops of bleach to each pint of vase water to keep bacteria from growing to using a solution made with lemon-lime soda, one part soda to two parts water. The sugar in the soda is said to feed the flowers and help buds continue to open, and acidity inhibits bacterial growth."

http://www.reneesgarden.com/articles/bou...

Michael Skaff, a floral specialist for ftd.com recommends: "Under running tap water, quickly cut the bottom of the stems on an angle and remove foliage that will be lower than the water level in the vase. Then add two to three drops of bleach to the vase to prevent bacteria buildup. "

http://www.quickandsimple.com/solutions/...

BTW, The ingredients in commercial flower food which keeps flowers fresh for at least a full week helps reduce the concentration of bacteria in the water, keep the water acidic, and supplies the flowers with sugar.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

I doubt that it's worth your while. The superstores tend to squeeze the producers and usually have stringebnt conditions in any contract. Many suppliers have been crippled by the demands of the large stores.

Is it true that the gases from apples can kill fresh cut roses & flowers?

Yes and no. The gas is called ethelene and seriously reduces the "shelf life" of cut flowers in a closed enviorment like a florists walk in fridge.

Storing tulip and other bulbs in the fridge with fruit will prevent the bulbs from blooming

when planted.

"Drink" chiller / cooler vs "Flower" chiller / cooler?

We are planning to buy "Flower" chiller to store fresh cut flowers. But the seller is proposing "Drink" chiller/cooler and said it should be the same.

Will there be any difference?

"Drink" chiller / cooler vs "Flower" chiller / cooler?
My mother owns a flower shop in Alexandria La named Flowers by Stans and she uses an old coca cola cooler to store her fresh cut flowers in.....there really is no difference as long as you keep the temp cold......the only difference is that a flower cooler comes with nothing in it and the drink coolers comes with selfs in it......go with whats more convenient for you....my mother left the top self in so she could lay her orchids and other flowers that didn't have long stems on...it was a win win for her.....also check the price.....don't let them sell you something more expensive if you don't need it!! PS. go on line and see if there is any for sale....maybe cheaper....just a suggestion...hope this helps hugs gomez

Are silk flowers more expensive than fresh?

Does anyone know? I was online looking at pomander balls and they cost $35 for a silk 6" ball and I wondered if that was expensive. Do you think it would be less expensive for a fresh flower ball?

Are silk flowers more expensive than fresh?
Hi Kate:

Yes, sometimes the silks ARE more expensive than fresh flowers. Of course, like everything wedding...it depends on where you live. I purchased a fresh rose pomander ball for the flower girl in my son's wedding, and I paid $30 for it (fresh roses). However, I do live in a more rural part of the country where the prices may be cheaper than where you are.

Call your local florist to inquire how much they would charge. I just love those pomander balls, especially for the flower girl.

Good luck!
Reply:GOOD silk flowers can be more than real flowers. Buying cheap silks can be really risky. In some cases they can look really fake or fall apart. I'm going with reals, but if I was going to buy silks I would look for higher quality silk flowers. It will never look as real as rel flowers though. ;)

Good luck and best wishes.
Reply:Top quality silks are often more expensive than fresh flowers. I've seen really good ones that were indistiguishable from fresh.

The trade off is that silks last a very, very long time if well cared for.

$35 sounds like a steal for a 6" pomander, considering how much work it is to assemble one.
Reply:Silk plants are probably a little more expensive then the real thing. The difference is they will last forever, whereas the real stuff will die in a few days. The question you want to ask yourself is, "How long do I want these to last"? The other thing is the silk never need to be watered, and just about take care of themselves.
Reply:Depends on what you're looking for. I've decorated with fake flowers from Hobby Lobby for as little as 56 cents a bunch. Of course those are not actual SILK, but if you don't care so much about the material, fake flowers can be very inexpensive.
Reply:Yep silk plowers can get as high as 500 or more dollars
Reply:depending on the quality- yes.. BUT do you mean having silk around all year along as opposed to continually purchasing fresh throughout the year?? then obviously no.. but if its for an event, go with fresh- nothing beats the crisp and freshness of flowers
Reply:My sister went silk, and she made her own. They were beautiful and she still has them as momentos. I used real which really were beautiful at the time, but now I have nothing but pictures to show.
Reply:There are two types of silk flowers: the ones from the dollar store or Walmart and the "high quality" expensive ones from Michael's, etc. Strangely enough, fresh flowers are much cheaper than the "high quality" silks which many people say look just like fresh flowers. I have yet to see any silks, even from a distance, that look remotely real. If you're willing to do your own arrangements, you can order the flowers in bulk from www.freshroses.com or a local wholesaler and save a ton of money over a florist.

I think $35 for silks is overpriced but that's just me.
Reply:yes,I have bought a couple and they cost more than 100 bucks

Does adding sugar to the water help keep cut flowers fresh?

I have heard of sugar, aspirin and pennies The Pennies work real good.

Does adding sugar to the water help keep cut flowers fresh?
I haven't hear that. But I have read that adding asprin works.
Reply:never heard of that, but a teaspoon of clorox (bleach) will keep it fresh for days :)
Reply:I've tried it I didn't see much of a difference ever hear of trying 7up
Reply:Asprin will do that trick
Reply:yea i tried it ...but sooner or later it will :(
Reply:I haven't heard of straight granulated sugar, but I've heard of aspirin (which didn't work for me), Sprite (which didn't work for me either). What works for me is placing the stems under ice cold water %26amp; cutting them slant-wise then placing them in a clean vase full of ice cold water (you could let a few ice cubes melt in cold water, too then add the flowers). They need water in the stems to keep them fresh. Also cutting them once or twice a week (depending on the type of flower) will keep them from wilting. Carnations last the longest, Roses are second, then Gerber Daisey's usually just need to be put into fresh water and they will spring right back up! Good luck!
Reply:i have always added an aspirin it seems to work just fine. i just make sure they are not coated ones.

Can you freeze fresh flowers?

a to use through the winter

Can you freeze fresh flowers?
Yes,I think that it is possible.
Reply:No-drying is the only way to extend thier form. Look into forcing bulbs and plants like forsithia for fresh winter flowers.
Reply:Freezing temperatures kill live flowers outside.

So, no, you can't freeze them and expect to thaw them to use later.
Reply:Not and expect to thaw them months later and appear as if they were freshly picked.

Is there something you can put i a cut flower arrangement's water to prolong the blooms???

my 8 year old daughter is entering an "arrangement" at our local fair. I have the flowers refrigerated until we leave today BUT, what can I use in the water to "keep" the flowers looking fresh longer???

Is there something you can put i a cut flower arrangement's water to prolong the blooms???
Change the water before you leave. Add a half teaspoon of household bleach for each 16 fluid ounces of water.
Reply:put sugar in the water
Reply:The myth buster folks did a check on what to use on christmas trees to keep them fresh. I think they found out the sprays worked best... however, of the things that you put in water, sugar actually made them last a shorter time. I've found that's true with flowers too.

People used to put a copper penny in ... I never found that worked.

I've used aspirin... with little success.

The packets that they sell with fresh cut flowers work well. I think they basically contain sugar in a form that's usable by plants, an acidifier, and something to kill the bacteria in the water. This works better than the home remedies, which tend to address only one of the needs, and sometimes not well.
Reply:add a couple of drops bleach or milton to the water. It stops bacteria forming, thus no smelly water and soggy rotten stems. Some people suggest sugar etc but I find this simply makes the flowers wilt faster...

Good luck with your daughter's entry :-)

Are silk or fresh flowers better for the wedding party and cake?

I think silk holds up better...but it's really whatever you want...Good luck!

Are silk or fresh flowers better for the wedding party and cake?
i'm having silk flower sfor my wedding, the only reason for this is because my wedding is in the middle of July, and with the warm heat that is to be coming, I don't want my flowers to wilt.
Reply:Real, real, real!

Real flowers on the cake MAKE the cake. I'm serious. I had roses on my cake, I considered silk, but I was so happy I went with the real things in the end.

I'm proud of my cake...

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b295/m...

Honestly, silk flowers can end up being more expensive than the real thing. I priced items to be able to make my own centerpieces %26amp; they were going to be almost $20 MORE than ordering them from a florist.

Check with a florst, see your options before you decide. Most will work within your budget.
Reply:Fresh Flowers are a great touch to the wedding party and I would consider it a necessity for the groom's men. However, for your bridesmaids you could be creative and economically efficient by making beautiful silk floral arrangements. The girls can customize their bouquets but I would suggest picking out the colors. The only problem with fresh flowers is at the end of the night the bouquets are usually spent. With silk floral arrangements they last forever. The girls can take them home or you can take them home and put them all together in a nice vase; a decorative way to remember your day.

Fresh flowers look beautiful on wedding cakes! However, they could also be edible flowers. They don't have to be the big ones that you see on your average birthday cake from your local grocery store. But, they could be arranged in front of the cake dwindling diagonally from the top of the cake the bottom.
Reply:For cost reasons, we are using silk flowers, because real ones were way too much money. We're not using flowers on the cake, but the bakery we are using said the florist has to put the flowers on the cake, I think to make sure you don't use flowers that are posionous.........
Reply:silk flowers are cheesy. don't do it.
Reply:Personally I think real is classier. But silk would stand up better
Reply:It's a personal preference issue, I had silk. Just make sure any real flowers that are used on the cake are either specifically for food (food safe) or have something between them and the cake (not just the frosting--something like plastic wrap). Of course, that's not an issue with silk...but then you might just want frosting flowers....

Good luck!
Reply:Silk for the cake.

Either for the wedding party. However, there's just something special about using real flowers on such a special day!
Reply:Fresh. Flowers at a wedding are all about symbolism, and I've never seen a fake flower that looks nearly as pretty as real.
Reply:Either one is fine. Real has the beauty and scent. Silk lasts forever and is also cheaper. If you use fresh flowers on the cake, please make sure they're organic and have never been sprayed with pesticides.
Reply:Silk flowers would be better if the couple wished to keep the decorations, and I'm sure that silk would hold up better.

However, nothing compares to the beauty of a real flower. I would definitely go with real flowers.
Reply:The bakery that made my cake said to use silk.

Who knows where the fresh flowers were laying before they were stuck in the cake that you are about to eat.

I ended up using strawberries dipped in chocolate instead.
Reply:fresh flower....for everything

Any suggestions as to an inexpensive indoor flower?

that has a strong smell. I would like to grow some very strong and settle, yet sweet flowers to make my room smell fresh. The strongest scented flowers would be best, due to my rollerblades and laundry. I am very active and the smell my clothes get from work isn't very appealing, so I'm looking for something to cover that smell or to even it out. and please, I know to seperate my clothes and put out work shoes and uniform. I'm an experienced grower that lacks the knowledge of flowers and fragrance.

Any suggestions as to an inexpensive indoor flower?
You might have a tough time finding such an indoor flower that isn't an awful lot of work, I'm sorry to say. The one flower that came to mind as having a scent strong enough to mask unpleasant smells are plants in the family called narcissus - the variety in particular are Paperwhites.

The good news: They have an amazingly strong scent! It is very sweet and will fill your room/rooms. They're rather attractive.

The bad news: The strong scent is too sweet for me - and overpowers my nose! I've moved mine out to the front porch because they attack my senses. Other people find them charming - and you might not be as sensitive as I am. :)

The other bad news: The don't grow and bloom constantly. You buy them as bulbs and "force" them to bloom. They'll bloom for a few weeks, then they're done until next year. You could keep a constant supply of bulbs handy and ready to bloom - but that's a whole lot of work - especially for someone new to plants.

Ideally - I think you might be best suited to find another way to mask the smelly problems. :) First - hide open boxes of arm and hammer baking soda (cheap! found in the grocery store baking section) all around the smelliest segments of your home. You can disguise the box with pretty paper, or hide it inside an empty vase etc. Baking soda absorbs odors. You can even sprinkle baking soda inside your roller blade and shake it out later. (it won't hurt your skin). Or, buy some "Shower to Shower" body powder which contains an excellent and fragrant mix of powders which absorb and mask odors.

You might also have to do your laundry a bit more often. :)

For your laundry - search around in the laundry soap section of your store for products like, Borax, or Washing Soda. Both of these items are somewhat natural - but they'll be murder on destroying stains and SMELLS while washing your clothes.

Activated carbon / charcoal also is a super odor eater! You can buy it at any plant shop, or pet shop (they use it in aquarium filters) You could fille a mesh bag with some charcoal and keep it in your clothes hamper to absorb even more smells.

If you realllyyyyy are stuck on the idea of a plant. Here is another list of scented plants to consider. None of them seem strong enough to me to do the job ..... but ... if you combined this with the other ideas I gave you, you might just find a good mix. :)

Indoor Plants: Nature's Air Freshners

By Dennis Hinkamp

Most homes have at least one house plant. Possibly the most popular is the low-maintenance cactus. House plants serve to soften the hard interior and create interest by inviting nature into the home. Other benefits from house plants include higher humidity, added color and healthier air.

Aromatic plants bring into a room or house an often overlooked benefit. Not all house plants are fragrant, but some have a pleasant scent and thrive indoors. The long winter months, when only the smell of cooking fills the indoor air, is a good time to introduce some new fragrances that can help bring a glimpse of spring into the home, says Jerry Goodspeed, Utah State University Extension horticulturist.

"Fragrant plants can help mask cooking and other odors, eliminating the need for air fresheners," Goodspeed says. "It's preferable to have a nice plant emitting a fragrant aroma than have the smell of burnt toast masked with the smell of 'tree in a can.'"

He says scented geraniums are probably the most popular fragrant house plant. They do not thrive indoors, but will stay healthy if placed in a well lit location, plus there is a wide assortment of aromas. Among the most popular are lemon, almond, pine trees, peppermint, orange, pineapple and even chocolate.

However, one of the drawbacks with some scented geraniums is their scent is weak, Goodspeed explains. Some require that you rub the leaves to get a strong whiff of their fragrance. This would be fine, but most plants can only stand so much rubbing before they die.

"It's the foliage of scented geraniums that carries the pleasant aroma," he says. "These geraniums need to dry out between watering, and be fertilized only about once a month during the winter. In the summer they can be moved outdoors and allowed to bloom."

Goodspeed says another blooming aromatic house plant is the gardenia. Lack of light is the biggest problem with getting a gardenia to grow and bloom indoors. They require a sun room, and do best in indirect light. In the winter they need to stay cool at night (55 to 60 degrees), and can be a high maintenance plant.

He suggests other flowering plants that may be easier to grow in the house: pink jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum), string of beads (Senecio rowleyanus), wax flower (Stephanotis floribunda), and wax plant (Hoya). These plant all require some special care and bloom better in indirect light in a sun room or other well-lit location. They all should be allowed to slow down and rest during the winter, by reducing the fertilization and keeping them somewhat cooler.

Goodspeed says the Hoya, string of beads and wax flower are all vining plants and can be trained up a wire or trellis, or planted in a hanging basket. The flowers have a sweet fragrance that can be smelled throughout a small greenhouse or large room.

"The common hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis) can be planted in a pot and forced to bloom indoors during the winter months," he says. "It also has a very sweet aroma that can fill a room. After they have bloomed and the foliage has died back, they can be planted outdoors and enjoyed for many springs to come. Buy new bulbs each year for forcing indoors."

Best of luck!
Reply:Instead of buying a indoor plant why not grow Jasmine or gardenias outdoors and bring in the cut flowers or better still buy some plug-ins or other room deodorisers and your home will smell beautiful all the time not just when the plant is in flower
Reply:Fresia. Look around, some have a stronger scent than others.

How do you keep artifical flowers looking fresh and clean?

put them upside down in a plastic bag with some salt in it, shake it and the salt will take dust right off them.

How do you keep artifical flowers looking fresh and clean?
Get a hairdryer and blow it off on the cool setting. hihg speed.

I would suggest doing it outside since all the dust will fly everywhere.

If you don't have a haridryer, you can use the export end of the shop vac, but I should think that if you don't have a hairdryer you also don't have a shop vac.
Reply:this sounds funny, but works, get a bag(big enough to put flowers in) and put some dry rice and flowers in the bag and shake!
Reply:I know it sounds really crazy, but as a home interior representative, I learned that putting your artificial greenery and flowers in a garbage bag with a couple of packages of regular table salt and giving a few shakes works wonders. It pulls the dust off, keeps you from having to go through the mess of cleaning with water, and shines your pant up! I think the best thing to do is to put the flowers into the bag first, then pour the salt over the flowers. Also, use a good quality garbage bag.
Reply:wash them
Reply:the large plants, that are not set in a fancy pot on a full time basis, i just stick in the shower, spray with a bottle of water with a tablespoon of dish washing liquid in it, and then turn on the shower to rinse, all that dust and junk goes down the drain. just let them stand in the shower till they have dripped dry. the large fig tree i have is set in a pot with plaster, so i take it out on the carport, and spray with a mist setting with the garden hose. that way the pot doesnt get too wet, then i dry the pot with an old towel and leave it outside till the leaves are dry too.smaller stems of flowers that you can use in an arrangement, just fill the kitchen sink with warm soapy water, dowse several times, then rinse off with the kitchen spray head if you have one . lay on the counter on some dishtowels or papertowels and when they are dry they are ready to arrange.

Farmer want to keep your flowers looking fresh, what will you do?
lots of warter sun and fertliser
Reply:Have the flowers been cut and in a vase? If so, every few days cut the stem about 1/2 inch at a slant. This enables the water to draw up into the flower and keeps it fresh longer. Change the water when it needs it and make sure you keep the vase full of water also.

What is the flower saver powder made of ?

When you buy flower from store, there is always a bag of powder attached to the wrapper. It uses to keep the flower stay alive and fresh longer. I am wodering what is that powder made of ? If you know it's chemical name that will be great ! Thanks !

What is the flower saver powder made of ?
Short answer: Bactericide, acidic additive and sugar

Long answer:

The function of a floral preservative is to lengthen the life of a cut flower. There are many commercially prepared floral preservatives such as Floralife, Bloomlife, Petallife, Roselife, Everbloom and S-O Preservative. Floral preservatives generally contain a sugar, a bactericide, and something to make the water acidic. They usually come as a measured amount of powder in a small packet, designed to put into a quart of water.

Sugar is included to provide a good energy source for the flower. The final sugar concentration in the water mixed with the floral preservative is usually in the range of 1/2 to 2%.

Unfortunately, sugar is also a good energy source for undesirable bacteria and fungi to grow in the water. These can build up in the water and clog the water-conducting vessels in the flower, which shortens its life. For this reason a bactericide must be included in a floral preservative. One of the more common bactericides is called 8-HQS although a chlorine compound may also work well. It is important to use a substance that prevents the growth of bacteria but is not toxic to the plant.

Floral preservatives also include something that will make the water more acidic. Acidic water discourages the growth of microorganisms and helps to increase the life of the flowers.
Reply:Some of it is sugar.

Any craft flower ideas with fresh, dried, pressed or paper mostly rosesor iris?

irises dont dry well, roses you can hang upside down and dry, and make arrangements with them or use them on wreathes, if you have lots of loose petals you can put them in clear jars and turn them into potpourri with rose oil. you can put dry rose petals into paper pulp if you make your own paper, you can press pansies very well and make stationery or greeting cards with them, also seperating the petals of batchleors buttons make good petals for pressing and putting into paper pulp, you could mix them into wax and make candles, you could mix them into soap and mold bars of glycerine soap with your rose petals in them. you can also cook your rose petals, in a cast iron pan and roll the mush into beads and dry them, they smell rosey for years.

Pressed flowers can be laminated for bookmarks, also you can use dried flowers on wreaths or in corsages. it really depends on what you are willing to do with the flowers

1 dozen roses

1 vase

bowl of water

bowl of liquid wax

empty butter containers

peel off the rose petals. soak them in water for about a week. After that hold each rose petal on the vase, and with a brush lightly dab on wax. after you completed that dip the vase in cold water.then, if the water is pink, then put that in small empty butter containers. Then you have a deodorizer!

How can I make my flower bouquets last longer?

I'm an amateur florist, and I've been disappointed that some of my flowers, even ones bought fresh from the market, only last a few days, despite flower food and listerine and changing water and cutting stems at an angle. Then I spray them with a chemical wilt-retardant. What am I missing?

Any tips of how to keep flowers fresh for as long as possible in a vase?
put a copper penny in the water. No idea why, but it works.

Hey, i wonder if they will last even longer if you put a copper penny in with the lemonade recommended by others - throw in an aspirin too for good measure and don't forget the panadol. lol

Just joshing, but the copper penny really does work - i just don't know why.
Reply:Crumble up a half aspirin into the water........ it works...
Reply:if you just wanted flowers to stay as fresh as possible. put it in yer fridge. the fridge will keep all the moisture in.If you want it for decoration, I would suggest putting it in cool water and in a shaded area.
Reply:Change water daily and trim the ends. Slant wise. Also, try putting a Panadol in the water.
Reply:Dissolve an aspirin in the water.
Reply:Lemonade!!!

It's true - put some flowers in water and the same again in lemonade and watch the ones in the water die long before the others
Reply:First when you cut them or get them cut them on a slant, keep them in fresh water cool water, and they always like the sun, so it might help if you put them in a place where the light can come into the room fully. Does any of this help? I hope so.
Reply:Add an aspirin to the water as well as some crystalized plant food. This will increase the longevity of your flowers.
Reply:The reason lemonade works is because it has sugar %26amp; lemon juice in it.

The trick for freshly cut flowers is to trim the ends on an angle, remove some but not all of the leaves, and in the water put a little bit of lemon juice and a little bit of sugar. They will last a lot longer that way. (lol, you don't need to use lemonade...)
Reply:drop an aspirin where keep your flowers, it helps them to keep them from dying so fast.
Reply:put it cold place,
Reply:Try putting a little soil in the pot to keep mthe flower going.

How can I make fresh cut flowers last longer...?

I have heard of putting sugar or baby asprins in the water. Does this really work?

How can I make fresh cut flowers last longer...?
An aspirin in vase water does nothing to extend the life of cut flowers. Now that we’ve debunked this flower arranging myth, do any of the other folk tales for keeping flowers looking fresh actually work?

Vase Water Demystified

Aspirin, vitamin pills, vinegar, and pennies are just a few of the more common folklore additives used unsuccessfully to preserve flowers. What works are ingredients that prohibit bacteria, feed the flower, and encourage water uptake. Commercial flower preservatives contain a blend of these ingredients that can extend the life of cut blooms by days. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden recommends a homemade mixture that works as well as the commercial variety. Mix 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon bleach, and 2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice in a quart of warm water. Warm water is important because it’s more easily absorbed. However, cold weather blooms, such as tulips, thrive in cold vase water.

First Cut Fables

The first step to fresh-looking flowers is stripping all leaves from stems that will be below the water line. Submerged foliage encourages bacteria growth in the container water. Remove at least 1 inch from the bottom of any flower stems that have been exposed to air. Legends abound as to the best way to cut, slice, or crush stems before placing them in water. Cutting stems at a 45-degree angle really does help most flowers absorb water. Some woody stemmed flowers benefit from slicing their stems, but you can’t go wrong with a diagonal cut. Use garden shears or a sharp knife to cut stems. Common household scissors can crush the vascular systemscrush the vascular systems of the flower stem, inhibiting water uptake. As soon as you make the cut, plunge flowers into a vase or container filled with lukewarm water.

Reply:Yes it does help, also you can put one or two drops (only) of bleach in the water. The bleach will kill harmful bacteria and help the plants live longer. Also cut the ends of the stems at an angle under running water. All of these will help them last longer. I hope that helps.
Reply:I did my science fair project on what made flowers live the longest-the best way to go is to just add the packet of flower food into the water. If you don’t have flower food, use a penny.

My aunt also said that about a teaspoon of bleach will help-she’s a greenhouse owner.
Reply:cut the ends diagonally. then use a product that says that it will keep the flowers longer. you can get this at any floweriest
Reply:i don't know about the sugar, but the aspirin does if you also change the water every few days with a new pill
Reply:Sprite is supposed to help! I always change the h2o everyday!
Reply:Put some sugar in the water and your flowers should last longer.
Reply:Keep them in sunlight and in a vase of water.
Reply:asprin really does work and also cutting the flower at 45 deg angle.
Reply:Plastic wrap and freezer...?
Reply:put them in the fridge at night/when you're out helps too.

You can prepare a wooden box and put a layer of silica and put flowers and fill it with silica .

Wax fresh flowers or dry them?

I am waxing some flowers and drying some. What I want to know is; how many times do you dip the flower in the wax and how long does the flower last?

Wax fresh flowers or dry them?
I only dip it 3-4 times because I don't like the wax to build up too thick. Waxed flowers, in my experience, last longer than the dried but they do attract dust. The dried flowers lack moisture and become very brittle over time causing heavy parts (like the bloom) not to be supported enough and fall off. The waxed flowers don't suffer the same fate, however, to keep them clean use canned air to blow off the dust from time to time. You will enjoy them longer if you do.
Reply:dry them

How do you dry out fresh flowers for keepsake?

Here are the methods....i myself use the air dry method or flower pressing method depending on what i am doing withthe flowers.

Air Drying Flowers

To air dry flowers cut them when the dew is gone, tying several stems together with string or pipe cleaner after the leaves are removed, and hanging in a cool, dry, dark, well-ventilated place. An attic, closet or pantry is a good place to hang flowers for drying. Drying time will vary; check how they feel after a week or so. When they feel crisp, take them down and store in boxes or paper bags.

Annuals like zinnias and marigolds are easily dried. Also, look for transplants of everlasting flowers like Strawflower, Globe Amaranth, Cockscomb, and Baby's Breath.

Drying Flowers Using Silica Gel

Other flowers may require a drying agent such as silica gel. This is commercially available and sold under several different trade names at garden centers.

Fill the bottom of a flat dish 1 inch of silica gel. Put in the flowers. Flat flowers like daisies or pansies are usually best placed face down. Most of the flowers with many petals like zinnias, marigolds, calendulas, mums, and aster do better facing up. Flowers like snapdragons and scarlet sage are placed horizontally. Carefully add more drying agent until the flowers are completely covered. Check in a couple days. Dry petals will feel like paper. Store in boxes with a little silica gel to absorb moisture in the air.

Microwave Drying

The drying agent process can be speeded up with the microwave oven. Prepare a few flowers at a time in a small dish. Put this in the microwave along with a cup of water. "Cook" on medium for 10 seconds to 3 minutes, depending on the thickness of the flower. You must experiment with timing because conditions are so variable. After microwaving, leave in the drying agent for a few hours up to a day or so.

Pressing Flowers

Flowers with flat faces like pansies, petunias, violas, and daisies are good to press. Place 3 flowers between sheets of blotting paper and put in a flower press or weight down with bricks or books. Check them after a week for dryness.

Finishing Your Flowers

After you've dried your flowers, put a strand of No. 2 florist's wire through each flower's head, securing the wire by bending it into a hood at the flower-head end. The final step is to wrap all wire with green floral tape

How do you dry out fresh flowers for keepsake?
I've had success with tying them in a bunch and hanging them upside down in a cool, dry place.
Reply:a dehydrator works great it might be a little pricey tho.(also use for beef jerky and mushrooms and spices many different things as well )
Reply:I sometimes tack them to a wall, but tying them upside down works too. I read an article about preserving and drying them in light sand but I'm not sure of the process.
Reply:I've had good luck simply keeping them in the fridge until they are dry.
Reply:There is more then one way to dry fresh flowers for keepsake. If u want it to be flat and not lose any color at all u can simply put it in the middle of a big book for about a week sometimes longer depending on the flower. If u want it to keep its shape u can use a blow drier on low until it dries out( the flower will lose a little of its color this way).
Reply:I have a living room FULL of dried roses that I've done all myself. I've followed the same process everytime and had great success.

First: Arrange them fresh how you want them to look dried. They are very brittle and you won't want to move them about too much once they're dry.

Second: Tie the stems together and hang them upside down in an open area where they won't come into contact with anything else.

Third: Using a good hold hairspray, soak the flower and bud.

Fourth: Leave hanging for a day or two in the upside down position to allow setting.

Untie and place as desired.

*** I find the hairspray method decreases the colour loss. Obviously, there is discolouration due to the fact the flowers are dying, but the colouring is still rather nice.

I love my roses and I hope this works for you. :)

I love having fresh flowers in my room. But they can never stay fresh for more than 3-4 days.?

Any tricks to make them last longer please?

I love having fresh flowers in my room. But they can never stay fresh for more than 3-4 days.?
It depends on the flower, some kinds of flowers will not last very long, while others can go on for quite a long time. When you get the flowers, re-cut the stems at an angle, then remove any leaves that would touch or go into the water. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water--soap works too. Make sure to add some water every day and don't put the flowers in a spot were it will get really hot or cold(like a window), light is good but too much can kill the flowers.
Reply:The simplest trick is to change the water every day. You'll be amazed at how long the flowers will last. Like us, they prefer fresh water.
Reply:this is not a joke its true try half a cap full of bleach it really works, i didnt believe it at first but tried it and now i always do it
Reply:cut the bottoms of the stems
Reply:use the free plant food they provide or to improve this add sugar or lemonade to the water. Keep the water topped up and not stagnent too. I've had flowers that last for weeks that way!!!!!
Reply:Since you love having fresh flowers so much, have you thought of getting a potted flowering plant? This way, you can water and care for it and keep it alive for the long-term.
Reply:Change the water and re-cut the bottom of the stems every couple of days.
Reply:Yes, Gracie always puts lemonade in the water, works a treat!
Reply:pop an aspirin in the water or some lemonade, they should last longer, glxx
Reply:Putting lemonade in the water helps them stay fresh longer. Or you can try putting a disolving aspirin in the water instead. I love fresh flowers too.
Reply:a spoonfull of sugar or an asprin or a drop of lemonade works wonders. Change the water every couple of days and trim the ends of the flowers. Dont leave near draughts or by a fire or radiator. If you have tulips put a pin prick just below the flower head and they will stay fresh and keep their petals longer
Reply:You might try putting a few aspirins in the water that will help and use room temper water never use cold cold water that shocks them
Reply:To help cut flowers stay fresh longer, add one tablespoon sugar and one drop of bleach to a quart of water. The bleach helps fight bacteria, and the sugar provides energy to the flowers.
Reply:1 table spoon of sugar and 1/4 of bleach

Does anyone know the name of the stuff you dip fresh flowers in and they keep forever?

You can use silica gel to preserve fresh flowers. It's bit more long winded than dip them in but does a good job. I wouldn't use glycerin for flowers only foliage.

Does anyone know the name of the stuff you dip fresh flowers in and they keep forever?
Sugar
Reply:Silica Gel or Borax (from Boots')
Reply:Silica gel, I believe. I think you can buy it at hobby stores %26amp; floral shops.
Reply:Hey

Well things dont exactly keep indefinately forever!

Anyway that aside there are a few things to do.

This is mainly for fresh flowers:

Try putting a few drops of washing up liquid (the stuff you use to wash yr dishes with) into the water in the vase with them.

Go into large garden retailers and ask them if they know what the actual name is-just describe fully what types of flowers they are or what you are wanting this magic stufff to do and they should be able to help. If nt try going to one of those small expensive boutique shops and see what they know!

If you are going to a wedding or such occasion and have bought flowers too early (say a day before) or are going on a long hot car journey put the bunch in the fridge the night before and they should last fr a few hours longer and stops them from drooping.

Also as soon as you take cuttings take the flowers and put em straight into fresh water make sure there are no air bubbles and avoid debris getting into the water. Ie change the water every day and take any leaves and petals out that could have fallen into it.

When buying fresh flowers look for tight buds and make sure the heads arent droopy.

Use sharp sissors or a knife to cut the stems to the desired length BUT do this under a running tap of COLD water and make sure the cuts are on a slant.

Place the flowers in a vase of warm water (room tempertaure) and arrange how you like.

Remove any foliage that will sit under the water line or dip into the water.

Place the vase in a cool spot away from direct sunlight. Cover any wilting heads with newspaper- it helps them to become plump again.

Add a preserve to keep the water free form fungus infestation (ask at garden centres).

If this doesnt work try a few drops of vodka into the water.

But if you actually want to PRESERVE them for ever dry em and press em or theres a brill new way!

When do hydrangers flower?

I want to use fresh hydranger flowers to decorate my wedding cake but don't know if they will be in flower. i am wanting to get married in july time.

When do hydrangers flower?
Depends on the species. "Mophead" Hydrangeas flower on old wood, and usually in June. Many of the new Hydrangeas flower on new growth, and they flower in summer and early fall.

If you are buying from a florist - just call them ask ask if they will have some available on the date you need.
Reply:they should still be in flower by then, I've got some in the garden that are just starting to flower now
Reply:Bad news but hydrangeas are summer flowering but florists might have a few tricks up their sleeves if you have your heart set on them.good luck with the wedding

Reply:For boxed fresh roses directly from the grower or local florist arrangements try this site:

Reply:Seasonal flowers will be least expensive and a local florist will likely have a lower delivery charge. I'd check a local directory.

Happy Anniversary!!!

Whats better silk or fresh flowers?

fresh, you dont have have to dust them just water

Whats better silk or fresh flowers?
both fresh and silk flowers are very nice but there are some ups and downs for both:

fresh flowers: they shed leaves alot and you have to make sure you water them every day

but

they are very very pretty and they make a room look more bright

silk flowers: get very dusty and don't have the beautiful look that real flowers do

but

you don't have to water them and they don't shed leaves or pettles and still have some of the look of real flowers

hope i helped
Reply:If I could have either I would choose fresh.

But -- they are more expensive (here) and do finally wilt, if are cut flowers.

Actually, potted flowers are my favorite.

But I have two felines in house, and they'd eat flowers if given a chance.

Artificial flowers last longer and can be found out of season.

It's like saying, "What's better, live music or recorded?"
Reply:Fresh
Reply:FRESH...much prettier, not tacky and brings a nice floral scent into your home. Silk is much higher maintenance and you would get sick of looking a the same flowers day in, day out. At least with fresh its a new look all the time. Never boring.
Reply:Fresh flowers are nice, they require daily watering, and sun, but also give off oxygen, if they are placed inside, in a vase, they will die within a week, inside, they also attract bugs.

Silk flowers, however make a pleasent picture, but have no scent, and if you place then outside, they will not last as long. Inside, they will not attract bugs.

Inside the house use Silk Flowers. Out side use the real deal: Fresh Flowers.
Reply:There's nothing like the smell of Fresh Flowers.
Reply:Fresh is always best. There are times when one cant rush out to get a bouquet of fresh flowers or dont have a garden of their own. In this case artificial will do. Also, not everyone has a green thumb or live in an area where fresh is available.

Artificial flowers have come a long way in durability and looks. I also like to add a nice potted flower to my rooms. It really is a matter of preference.
Reply:Fresh for sure!

When was renuzit fresh cut home fragrance spray recalled because of picture on can?

The can had a man's penis on the can. I have one of the cans. It's next to the seam on the can and the 'home fragrance spray' words. The fragrance is fresh cut flowers

When was renuzit fresh cut home fragrance spray recalled because of picture on can?
I believe it was recalled in 1i993 or 1994.
Reply:Coffee soooooooooooooooooo has the best answer!!!! LMAO!!
Reply:Sorry.... It's a false story.

http://www.snopes.com/business/hidden/re...
Reply:Don't know when it was recalled, but sure wish I'd seen that one! Are you sure it was recalled because of the penile picture, or because Renuzit was afraid of being sued for false advertising? After all, I have never known a man's penis to smell like flowers, even on its best day! lol.....
Reply:i'm going to go with 93-94 also. geez my EX mother in law showed it to me, and YES there was a VERY clear picture of a falice.

What can I use to keep fresh cut flowers last longer in a vase?

I love fresh cut flowers and get frustrated when they die so quickly!

I do as the person said above and cut the stems at a 45d angle, but I haven't tried the hot water trick.

For me I put them in really cold water, change the water daily, avoid heat, and keep out of direct sunlight. In the cooler weather I can keep cut Gerberras alive for 2 weeks.

Hope this helps!

What can I use to keep fresh cut flowers last longer in a vase?
Cut the flowers at an angle before putting in the vase. I've found that a little bit of suger mixed with water works wonders.
Reply:When you get them home, take all leaves or foliage off

below the water line in the vase. Then re-cut them under

water with a very sharp sissors or blade at a long angle

to increase water absorption. Then finely crush a couple

of Bayer aspirin and add to the water. Change waters

about every three days, repeating the process. This

will increase the life of your flowers about 500%!
Reply:USE A SQIRT OF BLEACH/ A TBLS OF SUGAR/ OR AN ASPRIN SHOULD WORK HAV KEPT FLOWERS 2 WEEKS USING EITHER OF THESE . HOP[E IT HELPS .
Reply:When you get fresh cut flowers, cut the stems off at an angle and dip the bottom end of the stem quickly into hot water, then place them into the vase-water immediately. That drives out any air from the stem and allows the flowers to uptake water in the vase immediately.
Reply:I've found along with the other answers already posted, if you wrap a few paper towels or some toilet paper around the ends about 3 inches up the flowers tend to stay alive a little longer as well.
Reply:if u put an aspirin in to the water and clean the water every 2nd day they can last up to 3 weeks, and also remove any that do start to wilt as that can turn the water stagnant.
Reply:I worked as a floral designer for 15 years. The best way is to change the water to fresh everyday and giving the stems a cut on an angle, using a sharp knife. If the stem is pinched or squished at the bottom, water cannot get up the stem and it will die very quick. That's usually why rose heads flop over.

Bacteria builds up in water that is just sitting, and that also makes the flower die quicker. Let's face it...It's gonna die anyhow!

All those hints your hear about putting aspirin etc. in water are not true. Just wives tales....
Reply:Cut flower stems on an angle then put into water with a little bit of household bleach (about a capful).
Reply:To bring flowers back from the florist, have some wet cotton wool in plastic to go around the cut part of the stem and hold it in place with a elastic band. That doesn't let the end dry out and helps especially if it is a long drive before getting them into a vase.

The xylons in the stem can suck up more water if cut at an angle ... but any cut will also squeeze water already inside out of it ... so cut the stems while holding underwater in a bucket. Then watered continuously. Place in vase and keep in a cool place.

Change the vase water daily.

When the flowers start to show sgns they are dying, sugar or asprin can perk them up for a another day or so, but then they deteriorate quicker after that.
Reply:Add sugar to the water

How can I keep fresh cut flowers lasting longer?

Add a crushed aspirin to the water.

How can I keep fresh cut flowers lasting longer?
I don't know why, but my mother used to always cut the stems at an angle, then burn the wound. She'd add a crushed aspirin to the water in the vase and put the roses in.
Reply:Before you put them in the water, re-cut the ends.

Tear off excess leaves on stems.

Change the water if it gets cloudy.
Reply:Each day, cut just about 1/4 inch at angle from the bottom of the stem, and immediately put them in fresh and cool, not allowing any petals to be in the water and, dont remove any thorns from roses...it tends to shorten its life.I don't do it myself but there is an old wives tale I heard that some put a little sprite or glycerin in the water.

I help sell roses for our church for fundraisers on Valentines Day and Mothers Day...A florist owner gave the insight on clipping the ends of the stem.
Reply:Fill the vase/container you intend to put the flowers in, with half or less than half full of water. Crush two panadols into that water and place the flowers in it. Someone told me this and i did try it out. It lasted about 5 days. Try it out.
Reply:You can mix Bleach And Like Sprite in with it's water.

just keep it away from where the bleach will stain!
Reply:Cut the stems on an angle, change the water and re-cut every 2 days. Do not remove any leaves thorns anything, You want all the plants energy used to stay alive and in bloom. Wounding the plant will re-direct the plants energy into the wounded area.
Reply:Put some white vinegar in the water
Reply:Lightly spraying fresh-cut flowers with an air freshener, keeps them up to 2 weeks longer than usual. The fragrance combination also adds to a pleasant atmosphere. Enjoy!
Reply:lemonade and water
Reply:I have heard you can put them in mountain dew pop instead of water and they will last longer.
